She said:

I haven’t liked jeans for years – probably because their ubiquity has become terribly boring. Do people really want to conform to looking just like everyone else?”

Admitting that denim is highly practical Joan claims one shouldn’t wear it with chic designer pieces.

Yes, I know denim is hard-wearing and practical, but do the ladies who lunch really want to wear long-lasting utilitarian gear, teamed with chic Chanel or luxury leather on top, while showing off at the Ritz or smart restaurants such as San Lorenzo and the Wolseley? A pencil skirt and opaque tights or simple dark trousers would look infinitely more elegant.”

The actress once launched a denim brand herself with Topshop boss Sir Philip Green (in the late 70s). However, being aware of all that work that is necessary to create a pair of good jeans Joan Collins is shocked at the cost of denim these days.

Writing for the Daily Mail newspaper, Joan said:

It astounds me to hear some of my friends talking about their designer jeans that cost upwards of £500 – what a waste of money! I see little difference between these and the knock-off styles abounding in the high street shops.”

The actress has confessed that she loves GaGa’s “original” wardrobe options but at the same time some of the singer’s outfits are a complete disaster.

Joan said:

She [Lady GaGa] uses fashion for what it should be used for – she’s having fun with it and is original. It should be over the top. But Lady Gaga is the worst too. Have you seen her? I like some of her outfits better than others, put it that way. She makes Bjork look like a nun.”

However, the 76-year-old, who has given her opinions about red carpet fashions since 90s, admits she has also made bad choices.

She remembered:

One year at the Academy Awards the designer didn’t get the dress to me on time and I ended up wearing a navy blue dress with pink ruffles. It was hideous. There’s a picture of me and Mel Gibson standing there in front of an Auschwitz exhibit and his SS uniform looks 100 times better than my dress. I thought maybe it would look dramatic but it was just horrible.”

The 76-year-old actress, who has always been known for her perfect sense of style and appearance feel really frustrated about the fact young actresses and other celebrities do not care much of how they look in public and can choose to wear too casual styles in everyday life.

Sadly, I’m hardly pressed to come up with a list of current stylish movie stars when they’re not red-carpet ready. That is usually an illusion soon shattered by candid pictures of the red-carpet star looking awful the next day, coping with airport paparazzi or a fractious infant. Perhaps those beauties of the golden age of Hollywood were so totally protected and cosseted by the studio system that they never had to contend with the prying eyes of the constant paparazzi and the continual invasion of their privacy.”

She commented:

Of course, styles have changed radically. No one wants to look like Pola Negri or Gloria Swanson ant more. Their overly make-up, overdone clothes and hair may have been what our grandmothers or great-grandmothers admired, but today they would be simply laughable.”

However, the Hollywood actress believes the situation can change if women try to look better. But according to Joan there are still beauties who make the most of their looks.

The list of those includes big names, like Dita Von Teese, Nicole Kidman and some others.

She said:

There are many exceptions. Dita Von Teese looks incredible with her black hair, her hourglass figure and red lips, as do the beauteous Beyonce Knowles and the stunning Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie.
