Chanel Cruise 2014 Fashion Show in Singapore

Karl Lagerfeld set the 2014 Chanel Cruise catwalk show in Singapore on May 9. It was one of the most modest Chanel shows comparing to the previous ones. This show was held in the ancient British army barracks, which allowed best portraying the low-key aesthetic. These barracks significantly differed from previous locations that we used to see in the Chanel’s 2013 Versailles resort show and the latest Fall 2013 show, which oozed excessive luxury and chic.

As we could expect, the size of the show was quite small when comparing to the standard Chanel shows. There were a few seating rows in the subdued-looking barrack, which were adorned with paint peeling on the walls. As for the garments, they seemed to be as chic as usual since Chanel is synonym for luxury and elegance, however with subdued allure.

Lagerfeld told:

I like the idea that it’s not impeccable. There’s a romantic charm that new things cannot always have. It’s not [just] about the historical details, but also the mood.

Color shades were limited to the classy black and white hues diluted with light pastel accents, so the brightest color in the show were the models’ eyes accentuated with turquoise eye liner. Collection featured evening-appropriate outfits and cricket-inspired garments in the monochromatic palette with pastel touches.

Karl Lagerfeld, creative director of Chanel, is renowned for staging his striking fashion shows for Resort and Cruise collection in the exotic locales like Versailles and Scottish castle. This time he decided to conquer the world’s richest city and opted for Singapore according to the Wall Street Journal.

This is a highly important event for the fashion industry of Singapore, since it is the first time an upscale fashion label decides to have the global launch of the collection here. This way Singapore will reinforce its position among the leading fashion capitals of the world.

Laetitia Casta In Chanel Eyewear Spring 2013 Ad Campaign

Laetitia Casta looks super chic as she fronts Chanel Eyewear Spring 2013 campaign lensed by Karl Lagerfeld. Photographed in black and white the, as usual, the campaign looks refined as the eyewear itself. Classic shapes and simple designs make for elegant eyeglasses and shades to pair with classic pencil skirts and pearls.

The image created for the campaign echoes brand’s past ads – sleeked side-parted hair, subtle makeup and fabric flower accessories. Though other accessories add more interest to these photos, we must admit. In one of the pictures Casta wears leather straps on her neck and head decorated with small Chanel logos while in another two clear hats embroidered with a flower.

Replacing Linda Evangelista as the face of Chanel eyewear Laetitia Casta adds another campaign to her impressive model CV. Late last year French actress fronted H&M lingerie campaign and has scored Reed Krakoff Spring 2013 ad campaign as well as appeared in a number of fashion publications. Besides her modeling career, though she keeps acting with three movies produced this year.

Chanel, in turn, or rather Karl Lagerfeld keeps with various interesting projects. One of those is a short film about Coco Chanel starring Keira Knightley as legendary designer to mark 100th anniversary of the first Chanel boutique.

Surprisingly, the Coco Chanel sunglasses didn’t make it to ads but were featured in brand’s Spring 2013 lookbook starring model Stef van der Laan. Oh well, still those clear wide-brimmed hats do the trick while the sleek and chic sunglasses look absolutely wearable and versatile.

There are as usual frames for ladies who wear eyeglasses. Medium classic frames are given modern makeover with textured designs. Shades feature bolder frames though still looking elegant and versatile.

Stunning Olga Kurylenko continues to promote her latest movie Oblivion in the major cities of the world from Moscow to Vienna. After flashing Stella McCartney and Elie Saab outfits in Moscow, Kurylenko opted for the elegant Valentino ensemble in navy and floor-length evening gown in Vienna.

Gwyneth Paltrow presented her latest recipe book, which includes a myriad of healthy recipes. On the presentation, she was  wearing monochrome printed dress by Isabel Marant, which she styled with Michael Kors sandals.

Angelina Jolie layered a black coat with a floor-length dress in olive green, both by Saint Laurent. She styled the look with gold cuffs to attend the Women in the World Summit in New York.

Elizabeth Olsen appeared at The Little Black Jacket exhibition by Karl Lagerfeld in Milan in black lace dress with skater skirt and leather cropped jacket. She accessorized the look with peep-toe shoes.

Vanessa Paradis looked edgy in the black leather trousers, lilac sweater with rich embellishment and black tailored blazer as she attended Karl Lagerfeld’s The Little Black Jacket exhibition in Milan.

Emmy Rossum went for the halterneck dress with trendy floral print, which she complemented with Jimmy Choo court shoes as she attended Z100 radio in New York.

Gwyneth Paltrow demonstrated her beautiful legs as she went for Victoria Beckham ultra mini shirt dress in purple and neon sandals to appear at the opening of the Tracy Anderson flagship studio in California.

Olga Kurylenko looked utterly feminine in white Marchesa gown with black lace on the neckline area as she appeared at the London premiere of Oblivion. She accessorized her gown with De Beers jewellery.

Charlize Theron demonstrated a casual look as she stepped at the streets of New York wearing double-breasted coat in black, skinny jeans, Rag & Bone boots and statement scarf with leopard print.

For the Dublin premiere of Oblivion Olga Kurylenko opted for the Roland Mouret floor-length gown in trendy emerald green, which she styled with box clutch, sleek ponytail and bright-colored lips.

As for the Vienna premiere of Oblivion Olga Kurylenko chose the trousers and coat in navy, both from Valentino Pre-Fall Winter 2013-2014 collection.

Rosario Dawson stunned in dusky pink dress by Bottega Veneta, which she accessorized with matching court shoes and box clutch, at the screening of her latest movie Trance in New York.

Emmy Rossum sparkled in Naeem Khan richly embellished dress in gold from Pre-Spring Summer 2013 collection, which she styled with gold strappy sandals, to attend the Jeffrey Fashion Cares charity gala in New York.

Olga Kurylenko promoted her latest film Oblivion in the elegant floor-length lace gown by Valentino. She complemented the dress with transparent box clutch and modest jewellery.

Karl Lagerfeld Collaborates with Melissa Footwear Brand

The legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld collaborated with the Brazilian footwear brand called Melissa, which is also a big publisher in Brazil. Melissa publishes its in-house magazine Plastic Dreams, which circulation reaches 300,000 copies in Brazil and 70,000 abroad. For the ninth issues, that was thrown for sale on March 18, Karl Lagerfeld captured the highly popular fashion model Cara Delevingne demonstrating the footwear created in the result of collaboration between Lagerfeld and Melissa.

Karl Lagerfeld signed a contract with the shoe brand that will be lasting for the four seasons in a row, so this is the Lagerfeld’s capsule line. Besides appearing on the cover with Cara Delevingne, Karl is the author of the photographs for the 16-page fashion feature inside, which were taken in his photo studio in Paris.

In this inside issue Delevingne gets to wear the footwear from Lagerfeld’s debut collection like the plopped on her head. Another shoe design comes in the hues of the Brazilian flag, while black pumps feature the heel embellishment reminiscent of the ice cream cone.

The rest of the pages in this Melissa issue concentrate on Karl Lagerfeld, including the interview with maestro. Besides legendary Lagerfeld, US artist Robert McGinnis and photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin were also mentioned in the magazine.

Another dozen pages in the magazine focus on Lagerfeld, including an interview with the multitasking designer. American artist Robert McGinnis and photographic duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin are also profiled in the 124-page issue.

The in-house magazine is spread both among Melissa’s clients and through the points of sale abroad and comes along with the digital versions for Apple and Android-driveb devices.

Chanel’s Haute Couture Spring 2013 collection  consists largely of tweed dresses and suits but also has its fair share of gowns, dresses in lace, sequins and feathers. The show was set in an artificial forest as the models walked the runway/path among trees and greenery.

The show opened with a number of tweed pieces in white and pale pink and blue. Most of them featured various kinds of details that accentuated the shoulders. Karl Lagerfeld shared that:

The idea is to make the shoulders beautiful.

The tweed dresses and skirt suits feature revers and other details that are wrapping the shoulders like scarves or simply placing focus on them. Some of the other outfits bare them in off-the-shoulder styles.

After the tweed lace takes rein being featured not only in dresses but also the footwear. Overlaid with floral lace the dresses also feature shoulder accents. There are several suits with skirts and wide leg trousers that feature navy lace over white fabric. Sequins are introduced through evening wear and numerous dresses that also feature floral patterns and decorations.

The floor-legnth gowns feature off-the-shoulder details as well as a strong floral theme that translates into the voluminous floral decorations and printed fabrics. 3D flower details seem to be a couture trend this season as they can be seen in Christian Dior and Giambattista Valli collection as well.

The beautiful lace and tulle get feather treatment by the end of the collection. Mesmerizing white and pastel dresses feature mullet skirts or a feather shoulder shrug. The pale blue and pink dresses are accessorized with long leather gloves and boots creating a contrast. The two other white feather dresses are paired with wispy lace footwear.

The closing number of the show were the two models in similar white gowns who walked holding hands which prompted the speculation upon the show’s message.

Lagerfeld was asked if he used the show to support gay marriage to what the designer answered: “Of course it was.”

I don’t even understand the debate. Since 1904 (in France) the church and state have been separate.

The designer elaborated that those who value traditions can continue tying knots in their religious temples while staying tolerant to same-sex couples.

Karl Lagerfeld went on to reveal that he’s opposed to the idea of same sex couples having kids through artificial insemination.

Chanel’s annual Metiers d’Arts show took place at Linlithgow Palace, near Edinburgh, Scotland. The brand showed off their Pre-Fall 2013 collection of romantic cozy pieces in lace and Tartan pattern. Models wrapped in shawls and scarves walked the outdoor runway enhanced with several fire pits.

The collection that was apparently inspired by Scotland includes an extensive number of outfits made of fair isle, bouclé, and tartan. Models showcased layered knits, coats and cardigans as well as dresses, skirts, and very beautiful blouses with cuffs and frill.

The extensive collection also includes jackets, trousers, and sweaters. At one point the models demonstrated the outfits similar to those of royalty with the baloon sleeves and puffy skirts. The historic clothes gets reinvented very subtly. The skirts are made of lace, some pieces come in leather, but there is plenty of plaids and other traditional elements.

The outfits were accessorized with patterned tights, furry boots, hats in different styles, jewelry in both clothes and accessories, various shawls and scarves, and mini bags. Models wore their hair up in braided ‘dos decorated with bejeweled accessories.

Stella Tennant opened the show wearing a tartan-decorated coat and a maxi lace skirt. Cara Delevingne, the BFAs’ Model of the Year, who fronted a campaign for Chanel Resort 2013 also walked the Metiers d’Arts show showing two outfits – a plaid costume with a blouse decorated with jabot, and a white sweater and blush skirt with furry boots.

The guests who made it to the Linlithgow Palace included press, fashionistas like Poppy Delevingne and Caroline Sieber. Those who attended reported the blankets tucked under their seats for it was cold and snowing.

The 29th Annual Fashion Group International Night Of Stars went on yesterday in New York with stars like Sarah Jessica Parker, Viola Davis, and Renee Zellweger attending. Some of the fashion designers who attended the event were Carolina Herrera, Karl Lagerfeld, Tory Burch, L’Wren Scott, Derek Lam and others. Celebrity stars came to honor the designers who were receiving the award.

Sarah Jessica Parker who presented an award to L’Wren Scott wore a colorful striped dress from the designer while Renee Zelweger wore a Carolina Herrera dress and presented her a Superstar Award. Viola Davis who presented Brand Heritage Award to Nicola Maramotti went for a black and white floor length gown and a metallic clutch.

Other designers who were honored with an award were Derek Lam, Gareth Pugh, and Haider Ackermann. Also among guests were fabulous model Selita Ebanks and fashion editor anda Project Runway judge Nina Garcia.

L’Wren Scott dazzled in a sequined black dress while Carolina Herrera went for a maxi skirt and dressy top ensemble. Nicola Maramotti sported a gorgeous black gown with a draped neck and Tory Burch wore a structured dark blue dress with a bejeweled belt.

Chanel Spring 2013 lookbook by Karl Lagerfeld features model Stef van der Laan who showcases the pieces from brand’s Spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection that is full of tweed items, cropped blazers, and fishnet-like fabrics.

Silhouettes are quite peculiar. Oversize cropped blazers and baloon-sleeved tops are paired with tulip style skirts and straight fishnet-like pants. The dresses comes in plain strapless designs mostly without pleats.

The outfits are accessorized with oversize clear hats, minimized hula hoop bags, pearls, and sunglasses decorated with Coco Chanel woman silhouette in a hat and with string of pearls on her neck.

One of the images in the lookbook showcases the eye makeup similar to the one models wore on the runway during Fashion Week and a massive pearl necklace.

Fashion brand Chloé celebrated its 60th anniversary at Palais De Tokyo with a party during Paris Fashion Week. This milestone was marked by an Attidudes exhibition demonstrating the brand’s work throughout these years.

The event was packed with guests like Karl Lagerfeld seen posing with Chloé’s founder Gaby Aghion and a chief executive Geoffroy de la Bourdonnaye, fashion editor-at-large Anna Dello Russo, fashion designer Rachel Zoe, models Arizona Muse, Constance Jablonski, Anja Rubik, fashion editor Franca Sozzani, and many others.

The exhibition is extensive showcasing countless dresses and outfits as well as elaborate in terms of presentation. The mannequins’ hair is styled a la haute couture in creative braids and voluminous manes.

Of course, I can’t ignore the outfits of the guests. Anja Rubik looked chic and edgy in her sheer paneled LBD while Anna Dello Russo looked lovely in a strapless metallic dress she paired with a matching clutch and gold sandals.
