2013 CFDA Awards Red Carpet

Some guests literally shined on the CFDA carpet including Karolina Kurkova and Cody Horn both clad in Michael Kors. Both beauties posed with the designer who looked dapper in a black suit and aviator sunglasses.

Olivia Palermo opted for a gold fringed Dennis Basso outfit, which she completed with a monochrome striped clutch and gold peep-toe heels.

Nicole Richie chose a bronze metallic Marc Jacobs slip dress she wore with Christian Louboutin clutch, and Jennifer Meyer jewelry.

Miranda Kerr wore Proenza Schouler dress in blue and green shades. Stuart Weitzman shoes and clutch completed the look. She also wore Elodie K and Jennifer Meyer jewelry.

Sofia Vergara was spotted in trendy emerald green as she wore Hervé L Leroux Couture dress and matching Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Olsen sisters Elizabeth and Mary-Kate went for the classic black. While Elizabeth wore The Row ensemble Mary-Kate opted for a vintage Issey Miyake dress. There was no sign of Ashley though.

Linda Evangelista was also spotted in black. The supermodel wore Oscar de la Renta gown with black satin shoes and a small clutch.

Rooney Mara also went for a black dress by Calvin Klein completed with Brian Atwood heels and red lipstick.

Other guests included such stars as Star Trek’s Zachary Quinto, Kerry Washington, Jessica Chastain and models Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Karlie Kloss, Constance Jablonski and designers Diane Von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, Prabal Gurung, and many others.

Emma Watson looks seriously glamorous in June/July 2013 issue of W Magazine. The Bling Ring star who poses for Michael Thompson wears retro style waves that give her a silver screen siren look. Actress wears a Louis Vuitton jacket and shorts on the cover but also slips into Erdem and Chanel dresses for the shoot.

Talking with the magazine the actress discussed her latest role in The Bling Ring, childhood and dealing with fame. The star was also asked if she ever tried to be a role model for young girls to which she said that she loved responsibility and never tried to hurry to grow up and ‘be seen as a woman’. Watson said that even when she was still in school she understood that such things like kissing boys wasn’t appropriate to her age or age of her peers.

For her latest role in the movie The Bling Ring, where a gang of teenagers steal clothes from celebrities, Watson had to assume a different mindset to make the character alive rather than parodic.

Nicki is so different from me. How do I try and understand a young woman who loves these things so much that she is prepared to commit crimes to have them?…With Nicki, I was really taking on a character. Some of her lines are so crazy and absurd—making sure she wasn’t a parody was a challenge.

The star also wasn’t used to the wardrobe choices of her character, which included ‘Uggs and very low-slung tracksuit bottoms’.

And at one point I told the costumer designer, ‘You can see my bra strap in this top; shouldn’t we pin it?’ And she said, ‘No, sweetie—Nicki is all about her bra strap showing.’ I was like, right, okay, different mind-set.

For the photoshoot for the magazine though Watson tried a bunch of outfits from famous designer brands (not that she doesn’t wear them to every red carpet appearance). In the black and white shot the actress wears a Chanel dress and Marc Jacobs gloves. In another two images Watson wears an Erdem dress styled with dramatic leather Sermoneta Gloves gloves and Prada shoes; and a Louis Vuitton coat over a dress.

The hair by Orlando Pita looks amazing and very vintage, while the photoshoot itself was styled by Edward Enninful. The issue hits the newsstands on May 28th.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Mohawk at the Met Ball 2013

Miranda Kerr wrote on her Twitter “Diamond’s are girls’ best friends” the day before the Met Ball 2013 took place. However in Sarah Jessica Parker’s opinion the key to the striking look is a statement hat as she accessorized her extravagant outfit from Giles Deacon with a Philip Treacy mohawk headpiece, which made her a real spotlight of the red carpet. Let’s see what are the other lust-worthy accessories that were spotted on the necks, wrists and heads of the female celebrities.

Striking Celebrity Accessories at the Met Ball 2013

Kate Beckinsale stepped on a red carpet in bright red dress by Alberta Ferretti, which she styled with triangle-shaped oversized earrings and ring by Lorraine Schwartz.

Giovanna Battaglia also went for Dolce & Gabbana and wore a stunning golden gown complemented with richly-adorned platform shoes, an oversized pendant and a clutch, all in gold. As for the hairstyle, she made a crown-like headpiece using the safety pins.

Miley Cyrus complemented her fishnet floor-length Marc Jacobs gown with sparkling effect with statement chunky rings by Eddie Borgo.

Zooey Deschanel opted for a floor-sweeping Tommy Hilfiger gown with simple silhouette, which she spiced with Edie Parker patent box clutch with a pink pin image.

Sienna Miller brought a truly punk look as she complemented her studded biker jacket with a spiked headpiece and Repossi Berbere earrings.

As I mentioned before Miranda Kerr went the safest way as she complemented her cut-out Michael Kors dress with oversized Cartier jewelry pieces and a Christian Louboutin spiked clutch.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Gucci gown was bold enough itself, so she decided to limit accessories to the chandelier Lorraine Schwartz earrings only.

Kelly Osbourne complemented her Marc Jacobs low-neckline black dress with a bright yellow wide belt and a turquoise blue clutch. As for hairstyle, she adorned it with a Jennifer Behr headpiece.

Katy Perry continued her long-term devotion to Dolce & Gabbana fashion brand and wore a label’s richly-adorned dress with religious symbols, which she styled with oversized earrings and a crown in the same religious theme, both by Dolce & Gabbana.

Jaime King covered her baby bump with a tailored trouser suit layered over a lacy blouse. She adorned her hairstyle with a Dauphines NY spiked crown.

Jennifer Morrison arrived to the ball in Donna Karan Atelier lacy gown complemented with Giuseppe Zanotti platform shoes and J. Herwitt spike rings.

Cameron Diaz looked classy in a cobalt blue Stella McCartney gown, which she accessorized with a boxy clutch and an edgy studded belt.

Doutzen Kroes complemented her original dress with stitched effect by Theysken’s Theory with statement gold cuffs by Lynn Ban.

This is a great example of how to wear the hottest prints in hottest colors and look stylish and fashionable. Stylist Zeina Esmail chose perfectly matching items from different designer collections and completed them with statement accessories that also feature various patterns.

Checks & Stripes

Checks and stripes are easily matched and can be fun but also quite elegant. Just look at the outfit with Louis Vuitton top and a striped maxi skirt. Another great example, is a checked Louis Vuitton dress with 3/4 sleeves worn over red and white striped shirt with longer sleeves.

Stripes on Stripes

Stripes on stripes is a great combination. If you are unsure what other print to mix with stripes, just take different stripes and you’ll get the look of mixed prints without much hassle. Just be sure different stripes look good together and that’s it.

Black, White, And…Red

The best color to jazz up monochrome outfit with is red. It’s also classic and even small red accents add much to the look. You can also experiment with other accent colors if you think black and white to be too bland. It can be a trendy cobalt blue, emerald green or bright sunny yellow.

Rayne’s hair adds another detail to the look. Clean retro bowl cut by Greg Wencel suits the geometric extravaganza perfectly as well as adds a touch of femininity thanks to gentle rather than straight lines. Stripes

Stripes is a great figure-correcting print. It also comes in a variety of styles and colors and this season the designers offer not only regular stripes but also diagonal, barcode stripes, and various other types of stripes that will help you rock the trend as well as stand out.

Stripes tend to make the figure taller and leaner when they are thin and vertical while the wide stripes will visually enhance the size of the body. Although horizontal stripes are traditionally consdered to look unflattering on curvier bodies it still depends on the cut and style of dress/outfit.

This season the stripes are funky and simply interesting. Giles offers uneven printed stripes while Marc Jacobs combined diagonal stripes with vertical and horizontal ones. Jonathan Sanders combined two trends in one with his metallic stripes.

Monochrom pants with vertical stripes have become a key element in the collections of affordable brands like Bershka, Warehouse and many others. These can be worn in combination with other prints as well as bright colors.

Houndstooth

Houndstooth is a classic print that comes in various forms and sizes. This season opt for large scale print and leave that classic small houndstooth for winter wools and office. Michael Kors and Timo Weiland went for oversize houndstooth print while Sportmax went for laser cut houndstooth cutouts.

Since oversize houndstooth is quite dramatic try not to overload your look with accessories and additional prints in other words keep it simple.

Polka Dot

Polka dot is a simple print that can be easily combined with stripes or florals. Polka dot was spotted at Karen Walker and Philosophy by Alberta Ferretti where designer combined with the polka dots and stripes.

Polka dot also comes in patterns that can be more subtle than the print. At Karen Walker the sheer fabrics were patterned with opaque polka dots creating a light and airy look.

Checkers

Checkers prints that was prominently featured in Louis Vuitton Spring 2013 collection also comes in various sizes and the dramatic oversize print is simply meant to make your stand out. From light coats to crop tops checkers come in various styles. A more modest version of the print can be found in the collections of Nanette Lepore and Derek Lam. Marni layered prints in different colors over one another which turned out interesting.

If you are interested in colorful dramatic prints of the season opt for the ones in collections of Peter Pilotto and Mary Katrantzou. Mixing and matching colorful complex prints can be challenging but manageable. Also take a look at brushstroke print in Spring 2013 designer collections.

And 2013 CFDA Awards Nominees Are…

CFDA announced the nominees for 2013 CFDA Awards which will take place in New York on June 3. The list includes such big names as Alexander Wang who got two nominations for the prestigious award, Marc Jacobs who will again compete against Wang for Womenswear Designer of the Year award, Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs who are nomintated for Swarovski Awards for Womenswear and many others.

The honorary award receivers were also unveiled. Oscar de la Renta will take a Founders Award while designer Colleen Atwood will receive a Board of Directors’ Tribute Award. Media Award will be given to Tim Blanks while Riccardo Tisci will get International Award. Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award is going to Vera Wang.

The last year has been good for Alexander Wang as he got a new job at Balenciaga and this year started with warm reviews of his debut collection for the brand. Another 2013 CFDA Award would be a great addition to his growing resume. By the way, Wang received two awards for accessories and one for womenswear in the period between 2009 and 2011. This year the designer might scoop one or two for either (or both).

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler compete against Wang in same both categories. The duo took home this same award in 2009. Phillip Lim, who received Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in Menswear last year, is also up for Accessory Designer of the Year award.

Thom Browne is also nominated for the same award as the one he won in 2006. The former J. Crew SVP Todd Snyder is up for Swarovski Award for Menswear together with Tim Coppens and the designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne of Public School menswear brand.

Kate Moss wore the daring outfit with sheer parts from Saint Laurent Fall Winter 2013 collection a day before it appeared on the catwalk.

Kirsten Dunst attended the premiere of Upside Down in LA in the black dress with the asymmetrical silhouette from Proenza Schouler Fall Winter 2013 collection (on the catwalk the dress was seen in pastel colors).

Carine Roitfeld wrapped up into the beige fur coat from Max Mara Fall Winter 2013 collection for attending the brand’s fashion show.

Nicole Kidman appeared at the premiere of her new movie Stoker wearing the L’Wren Scott dress in cobalt from the Fall Winter 2013 catwalk show.

Demonstrating the versatility and wearability of her creations, Victoria Beckham stepped out in London in the checked coat from her Fall Winter 2013 collection.

Louis Vuitton’s Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013 Ad Campaign

Ten models, both male and female, were used to replicate the Louis Vuitton Express. Photographed by Steven Meisel they look interesting but for me there is too much of glitter and details on the photos of the Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2012/ 2013 ad campaign. I know that Marc Jacobs is not the man who would go for minimalism, but this much of excess is not good either.

Some of the pieces from Marc Jacobs’ Resort 2013 collection remind costumes – dresses with totally wrong proportions (from the point of view of traditional fashion), oversized shorts and trousers, and of course ensembles consisting of weird-looking robes and underpants.

However, there are quite a lot of commercial pieces in Marc Jacobs’ Resort 2013 range. Sparkling striped tees, jackets and coats as well as A-line dresses with bright interesting prints will definitely become hits with Jacobs’ fans, especially those from celebrity environment like Dakota Fanning, Katy Perry, Leighton Meester and others.
