Ralph Lauren’s Fall 2013 collection is an elegant mix of a vintage romantic and old military style. The designer who showed his latest line at New York Fashion Week created an extensive range of garments both feminine and military-inspired. There are many beautiful dresses and skirts but also pleated pants and vintage blazers.

The collection is full of beautiful vintage separates like capes and military coats and even pant suits. There are lots of sweaters to pair with slim trousers or short skirts. Other tops include white bouses with ruffled cuffs and high necks.

The main color of the collection is black with a few pops of color in velvet dresses and a couple of evening gowns. Velvet garments make a half of the collection which is mostly dresses finished with berets and cropped jackets.

The berets and fur hats can be seen throughout the collection. The big fur collars and shrugs are also used to decorate coats and paired with evening dresses.

The vening gowns are decorated and beautiful as they come with elaborate necks, drapes and fabric details. The gowns are finished with dramatic over the elbow gloves and sometimes fur hats.

Some pieces are embdroidered with the floral pattern and sparkling threads. Some of the garments in the collection were strongly inspired by the military style which translated into suits, blazers, and other elements.

The footwear was diverse ranging from over the knee leather boots to ankle strap pointed heels like in the photo above. Other shoes were decorated with straps and sparkles and there were ankle boots decorated with fur and tassles.

Hanbags varied in sizes but were decorated with the brand’s insignia in gold metal or on leather. Some bags came in patterned fabric while there were also backpacks decorated with fur and leather tassle.

Georgina Chapman commented on this fall winter 2013-2014 collection:
We took inspiration from a Goya painting from the late 1700s, titled ‘Portrait of Maria Teresa De Vallabriga on Horseback’. We took notes from Goya’s non-conventional approach to the traditional equestrian portrait, pairing deconstructed corsetry with tailored skirting and embroidered trousers.

She added:

We played with the juxtaposition of light and dark hues and applied antique gold leaf embroidery and floral threadwork to add a softer, more feminine touch evocative of the Romantic period.

So, now we can see where the collection took its roots. It was filled with the rich embroidery and stiff flounces and folds, full skirts with the theatrical feel, embroidered bodices and off-the-shoulder playful necklines. The swellings shirts allowed creating the effect of the angelic clouds around the models.

As for the original items, the collection featured the flowing gown in magenta, which transforms into the meringue marvels, ruffled tail or another nude number. These gowns will definitely bring at attitude to your look.

Victoria Beckham presented her second collection at New York Fashion Week after showing Victoria, Victoria Beckham line. Beckham hasn’t changed her aesthetics of clean lines, minimalist garments adding color-blocking to the designs.

The new line is all about feminine silhouette and oversize details, an echo from this season also seen at other shows. The baloon sleeves, round shoulders and loose-fitting tops are balanced out with sleek pencil skirts, waist-defining belts, and streamline outerwear.

The color palette of the collection is predominantly dark with neutrals like brown, gray and taupe balancing out the black and purple, cobalt and lemon yellow adding a splash of color to the line.

Beckham also mixes textures not only in outfits but also garments. There are calf hair and textile turtlneck, calf hair and wool coat and other combinations. Then there are garments with the sleeves or necks of different colors.

The collection mostly consists of dresses and skirts paired with blouses and tops. The strict midi skirts are given a playful twist in form of a front daring slit while some tops feature sleek plunging necks which makes the outfits subtly sexy.

There are two pant outfits though in the line. In the first look the loose-fitting cropped pleat pants are paired with an oversize top with color block hemline, and in the second the same pants are paired with a blazer with unusual sleeves.

As usual the accessories were kept to the minimum. The footwear suited the outfits. The sleek pointed boots featured oversize cuff in a different texture and sometimes color. And some outfits came with ankle strap pumps.

These are clothes for women like me. I’m a huge fan of hers, it was such a strong collection. Female empowerment is her mission – above and beyond fashion. She’s someone who really walks the talk.

What is obvious about Donna Karan is the fact that the both lines by Donna Karan are dedicated to the woman’s strength.

Monique Lhuillier gave an amazing show as usual at New York Fashion Week. The designer’s Fall 2013 collection is a great mix of textures, prints, patterns and colors. The color of the year, emerald green come in vibrant hue and beautiful design from fur coat to red carpet-worty gowns.

The collection opens with white winter-y ensembles. There are knitwear, fur and warm materials all mixed together in chic outfits followed by som printed numbers and some beautiful dresses.

Fur is a reccuring trend each season. Lhuillier presents it in two-toned coats and fur snug scarves. The prints then become more pronounced and bold featured in skirts, suits, and dresses. The designer balances them out with solid neutral separates like a blouse or a pair of pants.

The final and major section of the collection is evening attire decorated with fringe, appliques, sparkles, and lace. The gowns and mullet dresses with embroidered matching pants make for a wide range of choice for the red carpet goers.

There is a nude dress with overlaid black embroidery that makes for optical illusion of a tattoo or body art. This one’s followed by a lace pant suit finished with a sheer skirt attached to the belt. The same effect is used in another number where the fiting dress is completed with a loose-fitting sheer fabric.

Then there are strapless gowns made of printed emerald fabrics that echo the show’s decor and fuchsia satin. The collection ends with a number of gowns embroidered with lace, beads and fringe. One of the gowns is a purple overlaid lace with fringe decorating the sleeves and the skirt to the hemline.

Another one is a black suit disguised underneath a sheer embroidered dress. The one dress before the closing number is a red loose-fitting creation with an embroidered neck and a lace suit underneath.

The foorwear was very diverse and beautiful. It included lace sandals, pointed heels and open toe designs. There were emerald green pointed pumps and even two-toned fuchsia open toe shoes.

Before the waist-accentuating peplums appeared on the catwalk and sheer fabrics complemented with the transparent side slits and skillfully layered materials with ruffled hemlines.

Gurung commented on the collection:

I wanted to look at the idea of the empowerment of women. When I read a piece in Time magazine about the Asgarde – a group of girls in Ukraine who come together to learn self-defence to stop human trafficking and female oppression – it started me thinking about the idea of empowerment and what does it mean? I always feel the biggest tool women have is their femininity, it doesn’t have to be all about physical strength. I wanted to show both sides.

It is surprising that the remote part of the world, which struggles from the internal problems, inspired the high fashion designer. In fact, it was an economic situation in his homeland Nepal that induced him to start moving towards his dream, part of which came true the previous summer when the Duchess of Cambridge wore his creations in her world tour.

Gurung shared his emotions:

That was the most incredible moment. It sent a message of hope back to Nepal.

Prabal Gurung can boast the high level of conscience in the severe world of fashion. He used the unique chance to speak out about the hidden political issues and evoke the optimism among teens in his homeland through the stunning women’s collection, which he characterized as “strong and beautiful”.

Anna Sui’s Spring 2013 collection is an amazing range of garments that mix prints, textures, and fabrics. The collection also mixes styles – romantic printed dresses with studded leather jackets and chokers. There are also elaborate accessories, mainly necklaces that certainly make a statement.

Printed summer dresses come in floral, animal and other prints featuring full skirts, lace appliques, and V-neck and high waist style. The dresses are paired with light shawls, denim shirts, leather jackets, and lightweight parkas.

The jackets and vests are detailed with studs, beads, pins, and patterns. The emphasis is on the shoulders and cuffs. Collars and pockets in outerwear is also decorated with colored stitches and appliques.

Light outerwear also features prints like plaid and florals. The lace shawls and jackets are great for iffy spring weather.

Shawls, crochet lace vests, and a clear clutch are also featured in the collection. As I mentioned before, the accessories are a big part of the collection. There are statement bracelets, chokers, and necklaces.

They are detailed with the cameos, jewels, and seashells and enhance the outfits they are worn with. When there are no necklaces the models wear ties and bows. The chokers are interesting as they are completed with cameos, chuky jewels, and plastic stars and flowers.

The necklaces are also quite elaborate and colorful. They include jewels and beads of different colors and various other details like bones.

The accessory collection also includes decorated eyewear in cat eye shape. The pointed corners of the sunglasses are decorated with flowers of different or same color as the frame. There are also cat ear-shaped embellished hats decorated with lace and beads and a headband with spikes and stars.

Footwear ranges from heeled boots to playful pumps decorated with heart shaped details to wedge sandals decorated with buckles and studs and also featured in leopard print. There are also pointed lacquered kitten heels with a strap detail at the toe.

Everything is great about the collection except the torn fishnets and lace half-leggings. The latter ones are especially not for my taste but all in all, the collection is a pleasure to look at, as it’s very elaborate, detailed and simply eye candy.

Another show from the New York Fashion Week that caught out attention is Oscar de la Renta’s. His Spring/Summer 2013 collection is romantic and glam. The elaborate fashion line includes various pieces and is featured in a variety of bright colors.

The collection starts with some pant and skirt suit ensembles featuring leather pencil skirts and tops, elegant blazers and pleat pants. Crochet lace decorates the hemlines in tops and skirts as well as the sleeves and necklines. The color palette starts with black and red but quickly goes neutral featuring cream ensembles and light blue pieces.

The prints and textures get mixed extensively throughout the collection – lace and leather, ruffles and layers of fabric, plaid with stripes. The 60′s inspired suits come in bold colors like pink and turquoise that also mix together. The leather and thigh-high slits give these suits a modern sexy edge.

Then there are shift and 50′s style full skirt dresses in sweet pastel colors decorated with black appliques, baubles and belts with bejeweled bow buckles. The last part of the collection includes gowns, decorated jumpsuits, and dramatic top-short ensembles. Some dresses feature layers and layers of fabric (top photo) or drapes while others are minimalistic and simple. The full skirt dresses also feature assymetric hemlines. The jumpsuits and shorts are extensively decorated with baubles while also featuring rhinestones and fabric flowers.

The collection pieces are very detailed. The jackets and dresses decorated with baubles seem like too much but the black and white lace appliques look great making the shift dresses and suit blazers look more interesting. Accessories come in a wide variety of forms and shapes. There are rose-shaped necklasces and bracelets, beaded earrings and brooches.

There are clutches of different sizes and styles. Some are bejeweled while others are patterned and come in pocket size.

Footwear is my favorite part of the collection. Laser-cut floral and lacquered pumps look fresh and interesting. The colors are also diverse ranging from light blue gray to beautiful emerald green.

Peter Som’s Spring 2013 Collection showcased during New York Fashion Week is full of elegant and beautiful pieces. Dusty colors contrast with the mixed prints of different scale. The silhouettes are feminine with a touch of oversize trend and the echo of such trends as color blocking and crop tops from previous years.

The prints and patterns are the most interesting part of the collection. They come in floral and abstract shapes often mixed together. Big prints, small prints, medium prints, different kinds of prints and patterns are mixed together. Learn how to mix prints.

The details are quite elaborate in this collection. The decorated floral collar spruces up the simple white shirt while the belts also feature prints. Subtle and yet noticeable.

Footwear also features prints as well as metallics. Beautiful floral pumps in light lavender and deep blue are my favorite. Feminine, spring-y, and simply beautiful. The metallic toe is still ‘in’ as seen from both Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 collections.

Printed fabric bags are a cool way to mix and match prints in the outfit. These ones have a side handle and they are to be worn in one hand underneath the bag’s bottom just like in other collections as you’ve probably noticed.

Diane Von Furstenberg has teamed with Google to showcase the company’s latest technology – ‘Glass’ specs that film and photograph the surroundings from the wearer’s point of view. Both designer and Google’s co-founder Sergey Brin were wearing the Glass while some models showed off the hi-tech specs on the runway. But it seems that this is not just a simple gimmick for the designer. The specs the models and designer’s assistents were wearing allowed them to capture all the different angles and perspectives of making the fashion show.

I am so excited to introduce Glass to the fashion world and use this revolutionary technology to give everyone a unique perspective into fashion,

said Diane Von Furstenberg.

The ‘DVF through Glass’ documentary of the behind-the-scenes of the show captured with the Goodle Glass specs will be shown on Thursday on DVF’s Google + page.

As to the collection itself there were prints galore, flowing fabrics and flattering silhouettes, neon brights and eye catchy accessories. The colection is colorful including colors like turquoise, yellow, lime, red, orange, salmon, navy, beige, brick red, white, and taupe.

There are floral and abstract prints mixed, polka dot pattern, shiny and sequined fabrics, embellished and bedazzled details, goldern belts, drapes, and plunging necklines – all of which makes the collection so versatile and interesting.

The accessories are a significant part of the collection. Some are the actual parts of garments while others are separate accessories like necklaces and bracelets. Necklines in some pieces are decorated with metallic baubles or plates. Sunglasses come in interesting shapes and bright-colored frames.

The footwear is also detailed with some accessories like chains that can be seen in bracelets and baubles. The interesting detail in the footwear is fabric rolls that decorate the straps or the back of the heel.
