Winter 2014 Lookbook by Dora Abodi

Hungarian-born designer Dora Abodi  has presented the new luxurious collection for Fall/Winter 2013-2014. It is quite surprising and very heavy on golden prints. In Abodi’s Fall/Winter 2013 lookbook we can also see her fascination with details and heavy textures. There are a lot of different patterns, which are mostly exquisite and elegant. Following the dark color trend for the cold season, Abodi opted for dark palettes, infusing them with rich prints and outrageous details.

Most of the pieces present the warm outerwear for autumn, and with few occasional dresses, but in the signature style of Dora Abodi, which she has chosen for Fall/Winter 2013.

Dora Abodi has started out her fashion designing career in 2009, but her artistic aspirations started long before that. Back in her childhood she used to spend hours in her parent’s art studio, where she contemplated on her life as a world traveler and a wildlife observer.

However, she got fascinated with fashion industry to the point, where she would study patternmaking, classical tailoring and garment construction in French Mod’art International Art and Fashion Academy, which she has completed with honors in 2009.

Her amazing designs have been showcased during various fashion events and in 2010 she received a Hungarian Fashion Award as well as the first prize of Design am Rheine designer contest of the Düsseldorf Fashion Academy. Last year she won Women of the Year – best designer prize of Glamour magazine. Her recent collection is mostly inspired by the ancient cultures; particularly it shows her fascination with Byzantine.

How to Wear Floral Prints

1. Start with Accessories

If you do not feel confident with screaming floral prints, it is best to start with small elements, specifically with accessories. This can be anything you like – scarves, bags or belts. Once you feel more comfortable, you can move on to bigger things.

2. Not every Print is For You

It is important to remember about the features of your figure when choosing a floral print. Choose flowers of medium size and make sure that they are within a certain distance from each other if you are medium size . However, if you are slim and toned up – you can choose any floral prints!

3. Cut and Print

If the print is too bright, the cut should be simple, or else will be just too much. It is important that the details of the print are the only decoration in clothes, or the outfit will look ridiculous.

4. The top and bottom should be different

Do not mix the bottom and top with the same floral print, unless it is a dress. In this case, it is best to dilute the prints with a monochromatic jacket.

5. Accessories + Prints

When your main outfit is in a floral print accessorize with the same print, it looks amazing. Do not be afraid to complement your outfit with accessories that have the same print!

6. Choose Neutrals.

It is best to combine clothes with floral print with neutral fabrics, so that it looks more natural. Neutral colors are beige, black and white.

7. Don’t be Afraid to Experiment

If you want to stand out, you need to pick up the same bright hue as in print. It is also nice to combine contrasting colors, those that are adjacent to each other in the color spectrum.

8. Blue denim + Prints

Floral prints go well with classic blue denim, so keep this in mind when choosing an outfit.

The most fabulous dress in Marchesa Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013 collection, in my opinion, is the shining golden one with a single shoulder and amazing drapery, which was worn by Stacy Keibler to the 2012 Oscars. However, there are a lot of others, as stunning. For instance, I simply love the pale blue sheer creation with bows, the red mid-length cocktail dress, the black leather perforated one (but it seems to me we have seen something like this a couple of seasons ago and even Kristen Bell wore one but in the red color) and a mini dress with an eagle in front (Jennifer Lawrence wore it to one of the Hunger Games premieres).

Dresses which seem to be a little weird and will hardly find someone to try them in Marchesa Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013 collection include: the one that opened the show and looks like a coat with a tutu, or the ballgown made of millions of ruffles which together look like foam sprayed in plenty all over the model’s body. A short dress with feathered hemline and sleeves is also not the best option.

DKNY Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013 collection is wonderful in design. It is composed of shorter coats with fur detailing, warm anoraks and biker jackets, pleated skirts and dresses, leather suits, and a number of floral-printed pieces all in lovely flowing silhouettes, with no angles or mannish elements.

While most of the ensembles in DKNY Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013 collection are black or close to it (which is good and practical for winter), there are a few brighter pieces but even those are quite autumnal. Red shoes are an exception though.

Hermes Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013 collection is very diverse but it is also quite harmonious. It inspires us to travel but at the same time it speaks about how good it is to be home and spend time with your close people wearing warm knit and cashmere pieces.

The color palette of Hermes Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013 collection is dark, which is quite common for such collections. However, there are a few bright splashes of color including red, tangerine and deep burgundy.

Stylish and sexy, Hermes Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013 collection has pieces for women with different taste. While most of the items are loose and mannish, like coats, capes and tunics, there are a number of feminine pieces like midiskirts, blazers and dresses.

Yves Saint Laurent Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013 collection, which is gloomy and dark due to all those vampiric inspirations, is actually quite elegant and stylish. There are interesting trouser suits with leather collars, cocktail dresses printed with lilies, capes trimmed with fur, and sexy jumpsuits to name a few. Floor-length gowns complemented with lily necklaces or bracelets represent the glamorous part of the range.

Accessory line in Yves Saint Laurent’s Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013 collection isn’t very diverse. It includes a couple of simple leather handbags, gloves, belts and jewelry pieces all made in shape of lovely lilies. Footwear is even less different. Only leather pumps in a few colors and ankle boots were showcased.

The number of Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013 fashion trends is large which makes it possible for every fashion-conscious girl to find something to her taste. Denim Trends for Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013

Colored denim. Colored denim has been in vogue since spring, but if for the warmer seasons designers presented pastel-colored and bright pieces, for Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013 they advise us to try darker and more practical hues. Brown, burgundy, wine and plum are the best, but you can also experiment with earthy tones or deep blue ones for the same effect.

Cropped jeans. Super-long and wide-leg jeans are in the past. Designers offer us a variety of cropped denim as a change. Cut just above the ankle, mid-calf or below the knee, these jeans will look best with high heels. Heels will not only lengthen your silhouette (which is essential with this type of denim), they will also add a bit of glamour and sexiness to your look.

Ripped denim. It might not look very neat but ripped denim is getting trendier and trendier. And it’s no longer restricted to jeans only. We have seen lots of ripped shirts, jackets and shorts on the runway and those were combined with elegant blouses, lovely brooches in shape of flowers or bugs, and even sunglasses adorned with shining crystals.

Cowboy-style denim. Wild West comes as inspiration for Fall/ Winter 2012/ 2013 fashion season. Not only cowboy hats are now trendy, Western denim is also quite hot. Look for denim pieces adorned with embroidery, fringe and contrast details. Keep accessories minimal.

Denim jackets. We all wore denim jackets in the 90s and it was cool, but then this piece of clothing somehow disappeared, and we have seen it occasionally through the years. However, it’s time to bring it back and make it a daywear classic. Denim jackets don’t have to be boring, make them stand out by wearing them with items other girls would never dare to mix. Pair it with pants, fancy shirts and youthful tops, try it over an evening dress or a sexy blouse. There are plenty of options, you just have to finds yours.

Double denim. While all fashion books and stylists say double denim is a big no-no for a fashionista, designers have another opinion. They have reinvented the double denim trend and made it clean, fresh and modern. Do not restrict yourself to a combination of jeans and matching jackets any more. Experiment with denim shirts, cut-offs and accessories. Change silhouettes, play with colors. Double denim is always risky but if you do everything right that risk will pay off.

Desigual Spring/ Summer 2013 collection is very interesting and summery. Light dresses, short skirts and sexy tops come in a variety of prints including florals, stripes, polka dots and kaleidoscopic patterns. There are bright monotone jeans, leggings and cropped pants paired with funky tops and jackets to cover up during colder days. There are a few light coats to try, too.

Accessories were kept minimal in Desigual Spring/ Summer 2013 collection because the clothing was quite rich in design. However, several lovely pieces still caught our eye – cuffs in vibrant hues two or three worn together, chunky necklaces and shoulder bags either one-tone or printed – looked wonderful.
