While many designers tried to make their Spring/ Summer 2012 collections feminine and smart Isabel Marant put her creative force into comfy clothing that could be ideal for a girl who spends most of her time travelling.

Isabel Marant focused on designing loose sweaters knitted from shredded old sweatshirts, hoodies, tank dresses, leached jackets and pants, sleeveless tees and hotpants in her Spring/ Summer 2012 collection. Pieces made with the use of patchwork technique are the most amazing. They fit perfectly and look sexy without being too ladylike.

Making your wardrobe based on Isabel Marant’s clothing only wouldn’t be a good thing as we all like to look like ladies from time to time. But if you don’t have to follow dress code rules these pieces would be the best to wear. They bring you comfort and make you look seductive at the same time.

If during London Fashion Week it was Erdem that presented a fabulous collection of lace dresses, during Paris Fashion Week Valentino did it. The brand’s Spring/ Summer 2012 range was ladylike, stylish, delicate and chic. It included fantastic floor-length gowns which featured plenty of embroidery and flowers. There were also dresses that went just above the ankle and they were as gorgeous. For simpler occasions Valentino created cocktail dresses but these couldn’t disappoint either.

Speaking about new details in Valentino Spring/ Summer 2012 collection we can mention puffed shoulders, long sleeves, hand-painted floral prints and velvet flower appliqués. Besides, some dresses were made of leather which was much unexpected from Valentino. And to add some more freshness to the collection the designers Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri sent their models down the runway wearing flat shoes instead of sky-high heels.

I haven’t been a fan of Yohji Yamamoto before as his punk-themed collections were not my style at all. But for Spring/ Summer 2012 the designer created much lighter and feminine pieces. One of fashion critics who attended his show supposed Yamamoto might be in love.

The opening look of Yohji Yamamoto Spring/ Summer 2012 collection was fantastic. A simple blue jersey gown featured an amazingly long train – nearly the runway long – with a huge hat finishing the outfit. Other pieces were less dramatic but more elaborate. Capes with pleats, multilayered dresses, boleros with unusual puffy sleeves, shirts with torn sleeves, and even color blocked dresses – all looked stylish and interesting.

Hats were the only and few accessories but they made the collection unique and memorable. Flat shoes, sneakers and laced boots made the footwear of Yohji Yamamoto Spring/ Summer 2012 collection. Even the bride that closed the show was wearing a pair of sneakers.

Viktor & Rolf Spring/ Summer 2012 fashion show seemed a bit unreal. Models with synthetic pink eyelashes were wearing fairy-tale outfits and looked like dolls walking on the runway. The girlish silhouettes, the color palette, the prints and even that huge stitching – all was interesting but puzzling at the same time.

On the one hand we were happy to see no more red-faced knights on Viktor & Rolf catwalk but on the other the designer duo kept their tradition of making garments normal women would hardly wear. The show was great but it lived just a few minutes… And that means the collection that was interesting to look at would lie on shelves with no one eager to wear it… Isn’t it just a waste of talent and time to make things people would never want to use?

Maybe my point is far from being correct but I love Viktor & Rolf for their incredible creativity but I do believe they should be more market oriented.

After seeing so many Spring/ Summer 2012 collections I tend to think that men-designers know better how to dress a woman so that she looked perfect. I am in no way trying to say that women-designers can’t create great pieces. They can. But there is something about collections made by men that mesmerizes. For example, Elie Saab’s Spring/ Summer 2012 range is simply ideal. 46 ideal looks – feminine, sexy, exquisite… I love every piece he presented.

The color palette in Elie Saab’s Spring/ Summer 2012 collection is screaming beautiful. And while he started from pearly pales he soon segues into more vibrant shades: emerald green, electric blue, and bright gold.

In his Spring/ Summer 2012 collection Elie Saab focused on adornment. He played with sequins and got the dresses which no one could draw the look away.

Besides sequins, Elie Saab paid attention to the silhouettes of his dresses – floaty, airy, with amazing necklines and asymmetrical slits those looked fabulous.

Being a true fan of Chanel I try to have a look at every piece, each creation by Karl Lagerfeld who has got an incredible talent of seeing the beauty in everything. For his Spring/ Summer 2012 collection the designer took sea as the main theme (Versace also did.). He transformed the Grand Palais into an underwater world with huge corals, shells, sea horses, and stingrays decorating it.

Chanel Spring/ Summer 2012 was very feminine and chic. Karl Lagerfeld used new fabrics which shone perfectly in the dim light of the place. Shapes weren’t always tight-fitting but even being loose they look good on a woman’s figure.

Boxy tweeds, drop waists, mille-feuille pleats were all in the Spring/ Summer 2012 Chanel collection. There were some weird elements too, for example, the dress with ruffles in shape of sea sponges.

But it was the accessories that I was attracted to in Chanel Spring/ Summer 2012 collection. Majority of bags were very Chanel – with chain handles and quilt detailing, while others looked amazing being all over adorned with pearls. By the way, pearls were used as belts and even to beautify models’ bodies.

I didn’t like the shoes though. Maybe their design ideally suited the theme of the collection but there was little lovely about them.

Jean Paul Gaultier wouldn’t be himself if he presented just an ordinary show. If in past years he used a transsexual model or a plus-size singer to arouse interest of the audience, this time, for Spring/ Summer 2012, he has returned us to the couture shows of the fifties. And I’m not only talking about the designs which reflected fashion of that period. I’m also saying he held the show the way it was held at that time – with no music playing and models walking down the runway carrying cards with numbers on them.

The first thing that catches your eyes in Jean Paul Gaultier Spring/ Summer 2012 collection is the influence of a tattoo-print. It is everywhere: going down the sleeves of dresses, on ankle boots, on stockings, even painted on models’ bodies. From the first sight it looks cool but if you look more carefully you understand that sometimes these tattoos look a bit sloppy and make outfits less feminine.

Jean Paul Gaultier Spring/ Summer 2012 collection features a lot of beautiful pieces. These include sexy sleeveless trenches, elaborated skirt suits, floral-printed jumpsuits and ensembles paired with white jackets, high-waited trousers with splits on the leg, black-and-white outfits and amazing bloomers (I have never thought I would say bloomers could be amazing!).

Kanye West can be a great musician and an ardent fashion fan but he’s no way a designer. He proved it to everyone at Paris Fashion Week on Saturday (October 1). A huge crowd of screaming girls greeted him before the show and his true friends including Rihanna and Beyonce supported him backstage. But all those efforts were simply in vain because the collection Kanye presented was plain and boring. Clothing was ill-fitting and unstylish.

I didn’t really expect much from Kanye West’s Spring/ Summer 2012 collection but what we saw on the runway at Paris Fashion Week was just a weak attempt to play a designer game. Moreover, I can almost feel the disappointment designers in the front row – Azzedine Alaïa, Dean and Dan Caten, Olivier Theyskens, Jeremy Scott, and the Olsens – felt during and after the show.

A few dresses which Kanye West showcased during his Spring/ Summer 2012 show revealed too much flesh and didn’t look sexy at all (But they were very Rihanna style…) probably because the fitting wasn’t right.

Despite the fact it was a spring/ summer collection there was too much fur and leather in it. There were leather trousers in patches of blue, red and black, blue jeans and glittering silver pants. Tops came loose, some knitted, others made of sheer fabric like organza. And there were jackets… shapeless and totally destroying a woman’s figure…

Shoes in Kanye West’s Spring/ Summer 2012 were horrendous – enormous-looking and totally unattractive. And the only accessory the girls were wearing were the necklaces with KanyeWest name on them.
