Penélope Cruz for Campari Calendar

Penélope Cruz was announced as new face of iconic Spanish brand Loewe. The actress will front the brand’s Spring/Summer 2013 ad campaign and will represent the brand for three years. Lisa Montague, Loewe’s CEO, said they didn’t want just any celebrity but Penélope Cruz to work with:

Penélope Cruz is the perfect ambassador for Loewe. [She] represents our values of passion, authenticity and excellence. Working with an Oscar-winning actress with international recognition will be impactful. I see it as a major step forward.

Loewe’s creative director, Stuart Vevers said that the actress and her movie characters have long been inspiration for his designs:

Penélope is Spain’s most famous woman. For us to collaborate feels right and natural. Penélope’s strong, sensual beauty has long been an inspiration for me as a designer. She’s been a constant reference for my ideal of Spanish womanhood since I came to Loewe.

The first campaign with the actress will be lensed by the fashion photographer duo Mert and Marcus. But for Cruz it won’t be new as she also represented Ralph Lauren, Mango and L’Oréal. Her most recent campaign was the Campari Calendar. Cruz shared her thoughts on collaborating with Loewe:

Loewe is an international brand proud of its Spanish roots and with a rich history. Its collections are made by Spanish master artisans and I have always admired their work. I feel fortunate to be a part of this project.

Penélope Cruz and her sister Mónica are currently working with the lingerie label Agent Provocateur on a diffusion collection called L’Agent. Actress also collaborated with brands like Mango while designing her own collections.

Penelope And Mónica Cruz Collaborate With Agent Provocateur

Penelope and Mónica Cruz are desiging a lingerie line with Agent Provocateur. It’s not the first design collaboration though as Cruz sisters have also designed collections for Mango. The sisters not only ‘always been huge fans’ of the brand but Mónica Cruz was also chosen as face of Agent Provocateur’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection. Sarah Shotton of Agent Provocateur said that:

Mónica Cruz was sensational in our Autumn Winter 2012 campaign, ‘Wilhelmina: Show Your True Self, and Penelope Cruz has always been a muse for Agent Provocateur.

Penelope Cruz said they were excited about the collection and that:

We have always been huge fans of Agent Provocateur and both of us are very much looking forward to this long term collaboration. We feel extremely happy to become part of this great team.

The diffusion collection designed with Cruz sisters will be called L’Agent consisting of 15 styles. Each of the styles will feature 7 or 8 items like brief, thong, corset or other. The prices for the collection will also be reduced which will make the collection more affordable.

It’s a proper design collaboration. They’ve been bringing in swatches and old vintage pieces and working with the design team,

said Agent Provocateur’s chief executive officer, Garry Hogarth.

The L’Agent collection will come out for the Fall/Winter 2013 season in the department stores.

Penelope Cruz, who looks gorgeous and fierce on the front page of W magazine, seems like a different woman in the artful photoshoot inside the issue. She looks elegant and sophisticated with a black cloche hat and a pearl necklace on. But she appears as an irresistible temptress on the other image where she wears a sexy strapless dress and has her hair on one side. And she looks totally ethereal with her face hiding in leaves and body depicted covered in clouds.

In the interview for W Magazine September 2012 issue Penelope Cruz talks about how hard it can be to play characters who don’t speak your native language, about her first audition and filming death and sex scenes. Here are the highlights from the interview:

Penelope Cruz on her first audition: “Yes, it was for the woman who became my manager and still works with me. She was testing around 300 actors. I was 14 years old, and she had me read a scene from Casablanca, which is impossible to do when you are that age. But my manager asked me if I wanted to work with her, and she sent me on some castings. When I was 16, I got Jamón, Jamón. Of course, I had to lie about my age. And I had to lie to my parents about the content of the script.”

Penelope Cruz on the key to being funny: “I don’t play comedy as comedy. That would be the biggest trap. I think about the characters and their situations. Then you don’t have to worry where the laugh is going to be. But comedy is harder than drama.”

Penelope Cruz on filming death and sex scenes: “I don’t like dying. I die in Don’t Move [an Italian film, for which Cruz won the Italian academy award for best actress], and I can’t really look at it because it reminds me of my grandmother when she was very old. But sex scenes are very strange. Absurd, really.”

Penelope Cruz on difficulty of playing roles in a foreign language: ‘There is a part of your brain that has to stop when you’re acting. You have to be in the moment and dare to fly. Words can’t be on your mind. And yet, when you are working in a foreign language, you have to be thinking about the words every single second. It’s difficult, but I’m not complaining. It’s just the way it is.”

She said:

As soon as she got to the set, I had to sit topless on top of her. It was the most interesting love scene I have ever done.”

The Harper’s Bazaar’s covergirl also added that it was Streep who inspired her to become an actress:

When I first started watching movies and I saw Meryl’s work, that’s when I became obsessed with acting.”

Despite being a successful and in-demand actress Penelope Cruz says family comes first:

Maybe I’ll make one movie a year, maybe two, but it’s not going to be more than that because I have other priorities now.”

And her perfect day is:

Running around with my family at the beach, that’s all.”

Penelope Cruz mentioned that she doesn’t like to attract attention to her persona much, so she avoids attending big glam events:

I won’t go to places where you’re going to find more attention. I go to the opposite.”

Maybe it’s all due to the fact she is a ‘worrier’? The star said:

[I'm a] worrier. I am living for every day and trying to have less fear, less worry. But I have always worried about everything; it’s in my nature. It’s the thing that makes me suffer the most.”

Maryl Streep, who usually dresses very demurely, allowed herself a little more for the 2012 BAFTA ceremony. Her floor-length gown showcased a lot of cleavage but the actress made sure she looked modest by wearing a lovely bolero over her red carpet attire.
