People get more and more coscious about wearing fur and leather as PETA activists promote their pholosophy of Not killing animals. But fashion world doesn’t always react to such appeals and season after season we see designer collections with fabrics and materials made of animals.

The recent Chanel collection for Fall/ Winter 2010/ 2011 featured plenty of fur. Karl Lagerfeld claims all of it was fake. But while using fake fur in his creations he doesn’t say he is against wearing fur at all. The designer states fur should be worn only by those who can afford it.
He said:
If you cannot afford it, just forget about it. Don’t use it as an investment piece to show people how rich you are. Use it like a cheap knitted thing. It’s like a big stone. Lucky you that you can have a big stone, but if it troubles you financially to have the stone, don’t have the stone. If you can afford it, OK. But if you think it’s an investment, then forget about it.”
Karl admits he “doesn’t like” animals being killed but he has no problems with fur farming because it is a way for people in rural areas to make a living.
He commented to Vice magazine:
My father was not really a farmer, but I spent my time around the country so I know everything about country life. There’s nothing else to trap in those areas. That’s why I always say, when people talk about not using fur, ‘Are you rich enough to make an income for the people in the north who live from hunting? What do you want them to live off of when there’s nothing else to do?’”

John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Karl Lagerfeld are designers who present their shows monumentally, with chic and splendor. Of course they cost lots of money and take many efforts but they definitely become memorable. Don’t you remember McQueen’s monster show? Or last season’s Chanel show with all that straw and playful activities? Yes, you do! And you will remember the Autumn/ Winter 2010/ 2011 show, too. Why? Because I bet you have never seen so much ice and water in Grand Palais.

The theme of the collection was the global warming or ‘the global cooling’ as Lagerfeld called it, and its effects on our lives. Male and female models had to walk on a wet surface of the runway sometimes sending little droplets of water to the front row where stars like Lindsay Lohan and Vanessa Paradis were sitting.

The huge chunks of ice on the stage were absolutely real as were the models strutting in head-to-toe coffee-colored yeti suits and shaggy snow boots. The line was more couture than ready-to-wear though I am sure it would have lots of fans living in normal climate.
The amount of fur amazed everyone but PETA activists should not call Lagerfeld bad names, the fur was fake.

The designer told The Telegraph:
It’s so good now, technical advances are so perfect you can hardly tell fake fur from the real thing. Fake is not chic – we have got a new Chanel tweed to stop copies – but fake fur is.”
Only best models were chosen to wear the luxurious pieces on the catwalk including Freja Beha Erichsen, Lara Stone, Abbey lee Kershaw, Coco Rocha, Sasha Pivovarva and others.

Brown tweeds, capes, bonnets, furry trousers, coats – all had a level of lavish elaboration usually reserved for haute eveningwear. Accessories were perfect. Jewelry was very similar to little pieces of ice, sparkling and mysterious.

January 2010 issue of Vogue Spain will hardly be appreciated by both PETA and vegetarians like Stella McCartney or Leona Lewis. The photoshoot that is included into the edition is entitled Negro, y de cuero [Black, Leather] and features plenty of leather outfits and accessories.

Heather Marks looks hot and stylish wearing leather creations by Alberta Ferretti, Prada, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Versace, Michael Kors, Alexis Bittar, Blumarine, Balmain, Nina Ricci and other renowned designers.

Leather is one of the top trends for Fall-Winter 2009-2010 and probably this was the inspiration for the given chic shoot. Besides, nudity and lingerie as outwear are shown here. However, Heather is never nude on these pictures. There are just a few glimpses of flesh which looks very sexy rather than vulgar.
Photographer: Tesh.
Stylist: Laura Ferrara.

PETA activists can sigh with relief as celebrities started wearing faux fur instead of natural. Maybe it is partially due to the anti-fur propaganda or something else but faux fur becomes more and more popular with those who we take example from.

Victoria Beckham has been the latest to appear wearing fake fur. And it looked chic and exquisite as usual Posh’s clothes.

Among those who have been noticed donning the new hot trend are Catherine Zeta Jones, Kelly Rowland, Liz Hurley, Myleene Klass and others.
Hope it will be going on and on! And poor animals will live longer!

PETA keep watching people’s attitudes to animals and try again and again to provoke the sense of compassion to those who cannot protect themselves. Another venture of the organisation intended to appeal humans to stop the violence towards animals was the photo shoot that features model Joanna Krupa.

The ad campaign titled Be an Angel for Animals shows Krupa posing inside a cathedral wearing nothing but a pair of angel wings. Her beautiful body is covered only by a big crucifix. Another picture features the girl with a puppy in her hands.
The campaign was organized to support PETA’s efforts to promote the adoption of homeless animals rather than buying pets from specialized stores, because each time a pet is bought from a store, another little one roaming the streets loses its chance to find a good home.
Joanna says:
You know, we’re trying to spread the word that breeding isn’t the way to go. Somebody needs to put their foot down and stop this breeding and these puppy mills. They’re in these little tiny cages, and all they’re doing is breeding their whole life. It makes me so angry that our government doesn’t do anything about it. So I am!”

The campaign is very important in terms of protecting animals. But the pictures themselves are under a question and widely critisized. Catholic activists say the ads “exploit Christian symbols.”

Leona Lewis is one of those few celebrities who doesn’t have her own fashion line. And no wonder she decided to join the others and create something really stylish.
Besides, the line Leona is currently working will be animal-friendly because the singer has been an animal lover all her life and cannot even think of wearing suede, leather or fur.

The collection will be launched through fellow animal lover Stella McCartney.
Leona said:
I’m on a mission. I’d love to promote a line of non-leather bags and shoes that are affordable. I think more needs to be available and not so expensive. There’s so much I want to do. I’ve always wanted to have my own fashion line, and that’s something I want to focus on next year.”
Leona has been a vegetarian for years and is a public supporter of PETA. This is what brings Leona even closer to Stella.
The source added:
Leona and Stella get on like a house on fire. They met at the recent Children In Need charity show at London’s Royal Albert Hall. They are both vegetarians, don’t wear leather and are huge animal lovers. The line would be very animal friendly.”
To tell you the truth I expect a lot from this girl. She is knows fashion and feels style. So, the collection will be impressive, no doubt.

I don’t blame Naomi for wearing fur, it is really fabulous and chic.
But she must have forgotten that 15 years ago she was a staunch supporter of the anti-fur in fashion movement and claimed she would ‘rather go naked than wear fur’.
And now she appears wearing a Dolce&Gabbana coat from their 2009 autumn collection. The coat looks beautiful with huge puff sleeves and jewelled buttons.

Naomi arrived to the premiere of Valentino: The Last Emperor in Milan last night with her billionaire boyfriend Vladislav Doronin. The couple happily posed in front of cameras.
The supermodel used to be a spokeswoman for PETA and once appeared naked in a high-profile poster campaign with four other models in 1994.

But later she was sacked by the charity after wearing real Russian sable fur at a Fendi catwalk show. Her new appearance made people sigh in distress and she even was called a hypocrite by Sir Paul McCartney’s ex-wife Heather Mills who is a true follower of PETA.
However, this didn’t seem to upset Naomi.
She said:
And as for that Heather whatshername [McCartney] saying she’d written to me to complain about me wearing fur and I’d never replied. I never received a letter, nothing.’
And yes, I am still wearing fur, but I’ve made up with that guy from Peta.’

Lindsay Lohan loves leather and fur, she has proved that more than once. But with the growing number of people turning vegetarian Lindsay will have to change her habits probably.

It is now Stella McCartney who has begged the actress to stop wearing leather.
The British designer refuses to use animal hides in her designs and wants to persuade the girl to ditch any clothes containing animal skins.
Stella is concerned that Lindsay is going overboard with her use of leather.
Lindsay wears a lot of Stella’s designs and she doesn’t want to be associated with such a high-profile star who insists on wearing animal products,’ DailyMail reports.
Stella has already tried to convince her close friends Madonna and Kate Moss to stop wearing fur and leather but her attempts failed.
She [Stella] never uses fur and encourages everyone to opt for a vegetarian lifestyle,” Stella’s spokesman said.
Of course, Stella isn’t the first person to try to persuade Lindsay to wear more animal-friendly clothes.
Last year the 23-year-old had a bag of flour thrown at her by an anti-fur campaigner in France.
Besides, people for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) contacted Lindsay to ask her to pose in their I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur campaign.
Well, let’s see if Stella succeeds.

I guess it wouldn’t be news for you that Hermes own farms in Australia to breed crocodiles for the purpose of using their skin to make bags. When I heard it for the first time I asked myself if PETA would react to this information. It took some time though for the animal-protecting group to respond.

So, here what the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals stated:
The thought of purposely breeding and killing crocodiles for an outdated, overpriced handbag should make any fashionista’s skin crawl. If Hermes really wants to be a leader in the fashion industry, it should stop killing animals for cold-blooded vanity and use cruelty-free mock croc and fake snake instead.”
Pink who recently provided the voice of a computer-generated crocodile in PETA’s commented the situation:
Killing animals for their skins is so disgusting that it doesn’t make me want to befriend designers who use them.”
