She told WWD:

I think it’s a very contemporary approach. The other issue with celebrities is that they are characters who are often associated with a certain film. I prefer a strong, generic face that’s not related to any world – whether that be music or Hollywood.”

Frida has already invited Raquel Zimmermann to be the face for the Autumn/ Winter 2010/11 adverts and considers her decision to be right.

The same opinion about the issue has Yves Saint Laurent’s director Stefano Pilati. He says models have the necessary experience and expertise to do campaigns.

He said:

Actresses are fantastic, but they’re not models and it’s not easy. What I need to focus on is an attitude, and this comes from a great, experienced model. Actresses have an attitude, but will never be the fashion attitude. To me, fashion photography is with a model; otherwise, it’s a portrait.”

Even Karl Lagerfeld agrees that models can give the right look to the label.

He said:

Why? Because I love them: They have the right look and class.”

The oufits were unusual for a catwalk show. High white dog collar on a suit, the yoked white blouse with full sleeves, the prim and modest mid-calf dresses looked like being typical for a Catholic convent. Even when a sheer black dress appeared it came with underwear formed as a cruciform bodysuit.

Platic covers put over some of the garments were intended for protection. Stefani Pilati explained:

It’s about protection. And partly, an homage to YSL and the rigorous tailleur.”

And the angel-like figures dangling on the gold chains wear inspired by silhouettes of Saint Laurent fashion photos Pilati had cut out of seventies magazines.

The collection as a whole looked good and some of the outfits would look great even in the office. Shoes were perfect and featured extremely high heels and platforms.

I loved the green sunglasses one of the models was wearing but I will never dare to don those myself.

The fashion reminds style of the 90′s.

The photoshoot was made by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Stefano Pilati has been working with Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin since the Fall 2007 season on Yves Saint Laurent advertising.

Each time a new supermodel was chosen for new season, starting with Gisele Bundchen, then Kate Moss for Spring 2008, Naomi Campbell for Fall 2008, Claudia Schiffer for Spring 2009, and now Christy Turlington for Fall 2009.

Stefano Pilati, who currently collaborates with Yves Saint Laurent, confessed he was partly inspired by seashells when creating the line. However, there isn’t anything overtly beachy about his Resort range. I would even say it was too far from summer vacations and seaside rest.

The collection is focused on classic cocktail dresses made of light fabrics like chiffon, satin; beautiful jackets and trench coats, classy trousers and sheer footless pantyhose of various tints.

Cocktail dresses are amazing. Some have flowing silhouettes, others are a bit puffy in skirts. There are simple but very elegant designs and there are those which look more complicated in style with voluminous or cutaway sleeves, lantern skirts and nice gathers in front.

Jackets are presented in a huge variety of designs. There are short leather jackets which can be worn with street-style clothes; jackets of classic length and tailoring which look very well with office wear and cocktail dresses; and long jackets to be worn with more casual styles.

There is a light and comfortable maxi-dress in the line too and this is just the one for summer vacation, here I have no arguments against it.

If we speak about accessories, belts are sure to mention. They are thick and very thin, made of leather or fabric, come in a diversity of colors and some are adorned with stones.

Jewelry is rather limited. Necklaces are beautiful. Some are long and thin, others are short and massive. I liked the necklace with huge pill-like elements! Earrings and rings are not as popular as bracelets, which mostly come bright and big.

There are lots of sunglasses to protect eyes during the summer period.

The collection of handbags is brilliant: a few big and middle-sized bags and a number of perfect clutches, one of which was attached to the outfit and needed no carrying!!!

Of course I can’t miss the shoes as these are my fave items in all ranges. Shoes are also very classy. Sandals are so feminine and sophisticated, mules have high steady heels but provide much cover-up for the feet, some are peep-toed, others are not, strappy and strapless… I could go on and on… Perfect shoe line!

And the last thing to tell about the range is the color palette. It is bright, including fuchsia, orange, gold and green, but at the same time there are lots of muted tones, such as light green, all tints of brown, white and coral.
