It was not easy for Sarah Burton to take after Alexander McQueen in the brand founded by the genius deceased designer but she was able to cope and went even further. She designed the wedding dress for Duchess of Cambridge, the dress that was named one of the most beautiful wedding dresses of all ever created. So, the title that Harper’s Bazaar gave to Burton yesterday – Designer of the Year – was well-deserved.

Sarah Burton received the accolade at the Harper’s Bazaar’s Women of the Year Awards that was held at Claridge’s Hotel in London last night. She wasn’t the only one to be honored at the event. Designer Tom Ford was presented with Man in a Woman’s World award. Actress Helena Bonham-Carter took the Role Model of the Year prize. Models Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Eva Herzigova, Yasmin Le Bon and Cindy Crawford all were named Fashion Icons of the Year.

Tom Ford isn’t an ordinary man. He knows it, and everybody knows it. So, it’s wrong to expect him saying he is just like any guy you meet when you go out. He admits he’s not a celebrity, not even a film star but he has that very problem every famous person has – he can’t walk a street without being stopped by people and asked for an autograph or a picture together. In a new interview marking his 50th birthday Tom Ford talks about lots of things his fans might be interested in. He says he hopes he doesn’t die tomorrow, shares on his vision of an ‘ideal’ woman, tells that he hates seeing ladies fully dressed in his clothing (especially if the outfit is totally the same as the one he sent one of his models down the runway in.), etc. Read and know new facts about the fashion designer:

Tom Ford on turning 50: “I hope that I don’t die tomorrow’. I hope that I get to be a little bit wiser and smarter, and keep learning things, and I’m looking forward to my old age in Santa Fe in my nineties as a sculptor – maybe wearing a lot of dark eye makeup like Louise Nevelson. I don’t know. I might have a Johnny Depp/Santa Fe/Louise Nevelson-sculptor moment in my nineties.”

Tom Ford on the ‘ideal’ woman: “The Tom Ford Woman for me is somebody who has her own sense of style. You change and swing. You have different moods. It’s not necessarily related to what you’re reading about in fashion magazines… she’s a woman who knows herself well, and who wears her clothes and her clothes don’t wear her.”

Tom Ford on women and styling: “Women love to shop, so they need to be able to find new things. So yes, I’m doing four collections for women, each year… But I don’t enjoy seeing a woman dressed in my clothes from head to toe exactly the way I showed it on the runway. I love when I see somebody who looks amazing and they happen to be wearing one of my jackets and a pair of shoes, they’re mixing things, and they know who they are.”

Tom Ford on being famous: “I always think, I’m not a celebrity, I’m not a film star, I can walk around on the streets, and then, when I do, I realize I really can’t. If I walk very fast and I don’t stop, maybe. If I linger, somebody comes up to me. They usually ask if they can take their picture with me, like I’m a building. It’s very strange.”

Tom Ford on his personal style: “I have a kind of uniform for London, a uniform for Santa Fe, a uniform when I’m on somebody’s boat, a uniform for the beach. I know who I am. I know what colors work well on me. I know what colors don’t work well on me. I know when I don’t feel well in something.”

Tom Ford on the new Beauty range: “Tom Ford Beauty is a collection I’m very proud of and very serious about. I’ve always been serious about makeup and cosmetics going back to when I was fourteen, and my mother had to take me to the emergency room because I was lying in the bathtub with cucumber slices on my eyes. She had to explain to the guys in the emergency room why her fourteen-year-old son had a giant infection in his eyes.”

Tom Ford on being a workaholic: “With computer and email, I think we all work twenty-four hours a day. I miss the days when you left your office and your assistant and you couldn’t work any more until Monday. But fashion is like that, and people don’t realize it. They think because fashion changes every season that it’s a business that changes all the time. And while the product does change, your schedule does not change. Year after year after year, you have to try to find ways to reinvent and make it fun.”

Gwyneth Paltrow is a cover girl for Elle September 2011 issue. The looks trim and glam in the photo shoot wearing Christopher Kane, Tom Ford and Louis Vuitton creations. The issue features two covers and a photo set shot by Carter Smith. Paltrow looks great and talks marriage, career, and being herself. After a long time playing serious and melodramatic roles the actress has found that she doesn’t care what others will think of her if she showed her real more fun side.

On her performance with Cee Lo Green at the Grammys and Beyonce: “Beyoncé’s like, ‘Okay. The singing is great. But you’re not having any fun.’ She’s like, ‘Remember when we’re at Jay’s concert and Panjabi MC comes on and you do your crazy Indian dance? Do that. Be you!’”

On taking smaller and funner roles: “I can do short jobs. If I was still starring in three movies every year, there’s no way that I’d be the person my kids want when they fall down.”

“I’m sick of doing the crying-in-my-soup part. I want to laugh. I want to sing. The main thing is, I want to have fun.”

On Chelsea Lately: “Doing Chelsea Handler is like doing Howard Stern: You’ve gotta rise to the occasion. It’s good to shock people who think of me as the prim Gwyneth Paltrow.”

On being more herself: “If you speak to my friends who’ve known me since I was four, they’ll say, ‘That is her.’ They always said to me, ‘You’re the dirtiest person in the world and so funny. Show the world that side of you.’ I felt guarded. I felt like if I really showed people more of me and I was still not accepted, then…Who cares. You just realize it doesn’t matter what people think of you.”

Anne Hathaway is often portrayed by fashion magazines as a sunny sweetheart in lovely dresses with her locks waved and curled all nice and smiles. However actress tries something new like turning goth for Interview Magazine Fall Fashion Issue. The Interview cover shows Anne with her face covered with lace veil while the spread features the black and white photo shoot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott with Hathaway changing from Dolce & Gabbana to Valentino, also sporting clothes and accessories from Alexander McQueen, Nina Ricci, Dior, Tom Ford, Chanel, Bottega Veneta, Maison Michel, Gucci, and Falke. I must say I like to see Anne Hathaway in this vampish goth style, at least for a change. It’s nice to change a character once in a while for a photo shoot. Why not?

The interview itself is pretty extensive and covers Anne Hathaway‘s earlier acting experiences as well as her newest role as Catwoman in a new Batman movie. This is what actress had to say:

On the scariest things to face as an actor: One is not taking full advantage of every opportunity-missing out on something for whatever reason, being distracted [...]. Look, Chris Nolan makes it so easy for you to act, so the thing that I’m terrified about right now is not living up to his expectations, which is actually a kind of uniform thing. Not living up to the expectations of the director is pretty terrifying. Being exposed as a fraud-that’s pretty terrifying. Then I think there’s a vanity aspect of it. All of a sudden, you walk on the camera, and your ass looks horrible . . . The last one I can live with, but the other two are way more important.

On criticism after Oscars performance: You know, it’s not like I’d had this big dream to do this thing, and it’s not like I had a set of skills I’d been honing for years and years that I was going to showcase on this night. [...] It’s actually been very nice because the critical reaction was what it was, but since then . . . Like, just today, I was sitting, having lunch, and a really nice Canadian couple on vacation with their daughter came up and made a point of saying, “We just loved you at the Oscars.”

On her work with initiative Girl Effect in Africa: Some amazing work has been done, though, through this organization called Berhane Hewan, and a lot of people are now coming out against underage marriage, so many of these young girls are now getting educated and lives in these villages are improving.

On fashion: My favorite fashion is daring. I love it as an art form. I love it when people are able to interpret thoughts and feelings on fabric or some kind of material.

Anne Hathaway goth outfits look great. There are some sheer fabrics, vintage lace, lovely voluminous details, and drapery. My favorite though is Nina Ricci dress so playful and beautiful.

Olivia Wilde is very beautiful and a good actress too. Her latest movie has put her in line with such big actors as Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig. While the cast has been busy promoting Cowboys & Aliens Olivia Wilde has taken her chance to shine on the red carpet changing outfits and looking fab. The one of those outfits just really stands out from them all – Tom Ford’s LBD. Why does it stand out? It’s fresh. It’s classic, conventional even but the design is sharp featuring a V-shaped neck and overstitched cups and hip-defining pockets.

What I like about this dress is that it’s both elegant yet modern. It’s demure yet sharp and really suits Olivia Wilde here who has completed her LBD outfit with Brian Atwood lacquered black shoes and Carrera y Carrera jewelry – golden oversize ring and a thin bracelet and red nail polish. But probably one of this outfit’s most eye-catchy details is a long ponytail divided by multiple voluminous sections which is a great twist to the sophisticated yet modernized style of Tom Ford’s LBD. For the makeup part Olivia Wilde went for a cat eyeliner and light rosy lips.

Tom Ford’s Fall/Winter 2011-2012 collection, which includes this same dress also in scarlet velvet has several very eye catchy and sophisticated cocktail dresses in black and white guipure, purple and bronze metallic lace, black and scarlet velvet, and tulle satin. Most cocktail dresses in the collection end just below or at the knee and can be paired with fur that’s in vogue this fall.

Tom Ford Fall/Winter 2011-2012 collection also features several maxi evening dresses decorated with hand-painted satin, Chantilly lace, and broken mirror. The designs also come in underwear-as-outerwear style featuring black floral lace, tulle and silk georgette. Collection also consists of jackets, boleros, pants, pencil skirts and delicate blouses.

Jennifer Aniston said:

The Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel (See Candice Swanepoel’s full bio and picture gallery) wears chic clothing from the latest Tom Ford’s collection along with accessories for the designer’s Fall 2011 campaign. Her make-up is bright and expressive which looks great teamed up with scarlet nails.

A few months ago Tom Ford said he created his masterpieces for major stars only. He didn’t want someone insignificant, like D-list starlets to wear them and his Fall 2011 ad campaign clearly shows why. His garments are totally luxurious and they will look fantastic only on those women who know how to wear them, who feel they are special.

Emma Watson received Style Icon Award. The Harry Potter actress commented:

It feels amazing. Fashion is something that I love. I try not to think about it too much. I try and block all that off and I just do what I love and just have fun with it. I’ve definitely been feeling the pressure a bit more recently but it’s just fun for me.”

Natalie Portman, who missed the event due to her pregnancy, was named the Best Actress while Blake Lively received Best TV Star award. Blake looked beautiful on the red carpet wearing one of Emilio Pucci gorgeous designs.

Tom Ford was awarded the International Designer at Elle Style Awards 2011. He deserves it, no doubt. I’m glad he’s returned to womenswear. He’s good at it.

The title of British Designer was given to Christopher Kane Courtney. Congratulations!!!

Coco Rocha was named the Best Model. And Outstanding Contribution to Fashion went to Helena Christensen.

Noomi Rapace was honored the Next Breakthrough Talent while the Best Accessory Designer award was presented to Emma Hill.

Cheryl Cole, who appeared at 2011 Elle Style Awards wearing a red-hot floor-sweeping dress, was given Best Music accolade.

Dominic Jones received Best Jewellery Designer and Meadham Kirchoff was awarded with Next Young Designer.

Tom Ford covers the front page of Interview Magazine wearing a black suit, white shirt and stylish polka dot tie. He looks amazing for someone who is 49 years old. In the interview for the magazine Tom tells about how he creates sexy clothing for women:

When I’m making an image of a woman, or dressing a woman – I have a reputation for sex and making a woman sexy, and men as well – but I don’t start out saying, “Oh, I’m gonna make this woman look sexy or sexual.” I simply stand there and put her in front of me and say, “What can I do to make her more beautiful in my eyes? Let’s pull in the dress here, let’s do this, let’s do that.”

Tom Ford also says he likes being at home totally nude:

When I come home…I wear no clothes until I leave. I eat naked. I do everything completely naked.”

The designer said he once had been interviewed at home wearing nothing at all. The interviewer was a straight male reporter.

[I was] sitting with my legs wide open, completely naked.”

Sharing facts about his life for Interview Magazine Tom Ford has said he sometimes feels attraction to women:

There are moments where I am sexually attracted to women. But it doesn’t overpower my first impulse; my lust for them is the same as my lust for beauty in all things. It’s not like I ever think, ‘Oh, my god, I’ve got to spread her legs and f*ck her.”

Tom Ford also said he now prefers quiet nature to urban environment with all that luxury all people strive for:

I grew up mostly in New Mexico, which is famous for sunsets and mountains and trees. That’s the reason I have a place there and spend so much time there now. When I was a little kid, all I wanted to do was to escape what I thought was the country and get to a city. Probably film and television had influenced me so much, I really thought the key to happiness was living a very artificial life in a penthouse in New York with martini glasses . . . As an adult working in the fashion industry, I struggle with materialism. And I’m one of the least materialistic people that exist, because material possessions don’t mean much to me. They’re beautiful, I enjoy them, they can enhance your life to a certain degree, but they’re ultimately not important. Your connections with other people are important, our connection to the earth. And that’s why I go to New Mexico as often as I can. And what I find to be the most beautiful thing in the world now is nature — sunsets, trees, my horses.”

The famous couple first met when Tom was an assistant and Richard was already a WWD fashion editor. Talking about how their relationship developed Buckley told the story of their first date and mentioned that Tom was a very ambitious man at that time:

For our first date, we went to this really sleazy cheapo restaurant on the Upper East Side called Albuquerque Eats — I don’t think it exists anymore.
