It’s not a secret that every season designers create their masterpieces based on a number of trends we will later stick to when choosing clothing and accessories. For Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 trends are numerous and very diverse. Interested? Then read the article!

For Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 fashion designers have offered us a variety of trends. Some are new and crazy and others are those we have already got accustomed to. Here is the list:

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #1: Androgyny. The whole world seems to be changing. Men become more like women and women strive to look and act like men. Fashion just can’t stay aside of this global trend. And as a result we see mannish shirts, suits, boots, and hats in majority of Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 designer collections: Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Sonia Rykiel, Stella McCartney, Balenciaga, and others.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #2: Color. For colder seasons designers normally prefer using neutral or reserved colors like black, brown, navy, cream, dark violet, etc. However, Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 collections abound in brighter hues like crimson, neon orange, purple, sky blue and others. Besides, these eye-popping tones can come in daring combinations. See Haider Ackermann, Alberta Ferretti, Victoria Beckham, Tommy Hilfiger, Burberry Prorsum, and other designers and brands for inspiration. (Read COLOR TRENDS FOR FALL/ WINTER 2011/ 2012)

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #3: Fetish. This trend has come very unexpected. The most surprising thing is that so many designers have taken it so seriously. Marc Jacobs has built both Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs collections on fetish and domitatrix themes. Gaga’s favorite designer Mugler, Giles, Antonio Berardi, Marios Schwab as well as Viktor & Rolf and Givenchy have all featured this Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 trend in their ranges.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #4: Texture Overload. Everything is mixed in Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 collections. Silk comes along with fur and knitwear, sequins and leather make a perfect combination and even plastic goes well with chiffon and wool. Sounds crazy? It does. And it does look a bit crazy, too.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #5: 40s Elegance. Fashion repeats itself. In Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 40s elegance is again a hot trend. The best approach to reinvent this fashion era has been realized by Gucci, John Galliano, Miu Miu, and Jonathan Saunders.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #6: Midi and Maxi skirts. Miniskirts are always popular, especially with teenagers. But for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 you better embrace the longer length skirts. These can look as sexy as minis because your sex appeal depends on how you wear your clothes, not the type of clothing you wear. Find midis and maxis in Dries Van Noten, Chloe, Balenciaga, Roland Mouret, Antonio Marras, St.John and other designer collections.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #7: Prints. The variety of prints in Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 collections is huge: from tiny polka dots in Gucci and broken glass in Stella McCartney to girly paisley in Anna Sui and bold flowers in Versace. There are also baroque prints in Jonathan Saunders, photographic flowers at Giambattist Valli, Miu Miu’s glittering spring flowers, enlarged feathers at Ungaro, panthers in Givenchy’s, and plenty of other prints in other designer collections. You just need to understand what print you want because you can have everything.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #8: Pleats and Frills. While gender play trend is going forward at a steady gait some designers think femininity should be preserved. It’s the greatest news for those girls who don’t want to transform into strong and courageous men and prefer to remain fragile women. Pleats, frills, cute rosettes and lovely embroidery help us look romantic. And we sometimes want to look romantic, don’t we? Prettiest pleats can be found in Valentino, Oscar de la Renta and Christian Dior Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 collections.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #9: Zoological. Besides zoological prints, like leopard and python, to which we have already got accustomed due to the fact every single season designers use these in their creations, in Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 ranges we see lots of feathers, wild animals printed on fabric (Givenchy, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Topshop and Ungaro), hats in shape of lions and panthers at Anna Sui, etc. Fashion goes really wild.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #10 Chunky Knit Sweater. .Fall and winter are cold seasons, so there is no wonder why designers have included warm chunky sweaters into their collections. Missoni is the main producer of knitted sweaters. You can see a great variety of knitted items in their Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 line.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #11: Fur. As with sweaters, fur is the perfect material for winter. And it looks chic, too. But with the severe struggle to protect animals designers have become wiser and started using more faux fur than genuine one. One more interesting tendency to note – designers make real fur look like fake and fake fur look like genuine. (Read all about fur trend for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012.)

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #12: Leather. Fur and leather often come together. Indeed, they make a great combination. For Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 fashion season leather is a big trend. You can go for a total leather look like Hermes offers or restrict yourself to separate items or even details in leather. (Read all about leather trend for Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012.)

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #13: Layers. Despite the fact fashion experts often criticize layered looks layers are the best for colder time. The more layers, the warmer you feel, unless your layers aren’t too slinky of course. See layered looks by Gucci, Christian Dior and others.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #14: Coats. Fall and winter are all about outerwear. Coats designers have offered us this season are all very diverse. Opt for a military coat from Versace, youthful and sexy cropped trench from Burberry, or luxury coat from Michael Kors or Gucci. Oscar de la Renta suggests cropped hooded coats trimmed with fur. Hermes insists we should try wider poncho style coats. As you see the variety is almost unlimited. Just go for any piece you like!

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #15: Wide cropped trousers. This is the shape of trousers many women try to avoid thinking those will look really unflattering. However, if styled well such trousers can look fantastic.

Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 Fashion Trend #16: Sheer. Sheer trend isn’t the wisest for fall and winter but it is still popular. Best sheer dresses, skirts and blouses are in Christian Dior, Gucci, Alexander Wang, Mugler, Blumarine and Michael Kors collections.

Since Giles Deacon has been officially named the creative director of Ungaro he’s been making plans about what to change in the fashion house and what to leave untouched. He has huge ambitions but knows how repsponsible he should be taking into account the fact now the brand is associated with scandals and rumours.

Read the interview the designer gives to Tim Blanks:

Wow! Giles loves a challenge.
I thought of all of that, but you’ve just got to see beyond it. It’s such an easy thing for the more salacious writers to get bogged down in, but the legacy of the house is so immense that the last two years have been a week in its lifetime. Anyone with a good fashion knowledge and a sense of history will know what there is to work with. There’s the most amazing archive from 1967 onwards, a huge couture archive from 1970 until Mr. Ungaro finished in 2003, so much to get yourself involved in.

Has the house always been on your radar?
When I was doing my foundation course, before I ever got to Saint Martins, I was a really big fan of Ungaro. The Ratti prints were immediately appealing to my magpie eye. I thought there was always a lot more to Ungaro than the eighties thing with the ruching and the florals, and what I want to do is assimilate all that and make a new version, capturing the spirit and using what little intelligence I have to give it my twist.

And what is that spirit?
Put simply, it’s the vivacious Frenchness that really interests me. They’re very lively clothes in their construction. They look like clothes you can have a good time in, which I’m really attracted to.

Do you detect an Ungaro element in contemporary fashion?
I think there were certain elements in Tom’s first Saint Laurent collections. And Carine Roitfeld has a very Ungaro feel about the way she dresses: the tailored jacket, the pencil skirt. It’s kind of tarty with intelligence. I see them as really empowering clothes, and lots of women like playing with the psychology of all that. It’s an interesting game.

How compatible do you consider your own work to be?
In the use of color and print, and the essential playfulness. But I’m very conscious that I don’t want any blurring. My own line is more subversive. In Ungaro-land, things are a little more obvious. I like the instantness of those clothes, but the world of challenge for me is getting that other kind of lightness and softness. My own things tend to be a little bit harder.

And never forget your natural tendency toward the macabre…
I’ll keep that with me. [Hearty laughter.]

The house of Ungaro was an haute couture stalwart. I imagine the recent past has been brutal to the legacy.
The atelier still exists. There are eight ladies who’ve been working there on private client pieces and wedding dresses. I’m very keen to start that again. To work with those ladies within an atelier setting would be an absolute privilege for me. I’ve got the loose idea of getting a small presentation together for January…The rest of the Ungaro team is amazing, too. The print developer, the fabric technician, they’ve all been there quite some time, and they’re super-ready to get involved and put the past couple of years to one side.

What’s this going to do for your work load?
We’ll have to be organized with military precision. My diary is done about 14 months in advance, anyway, which is fantastic but terrifying at times. Besides, every three days, I’m somewhere else anyway. But I can do door-to-door from my studio in London to Ungaro on Avenue Montaigne in three hours.

Tough period seems to be over for Ungaro as they have finally hired a professional designer – Giles Deacon.

The hard times began as soon as Lindsay Lohan was offered a position of an artistic advisor. She had no necessary skill and expertise to create chic clothing and even Estrella Archs couldn’t help much. The Spring/ Summer 2010 collection designed by the two girls was highly criticized and soon Lindsay and then Estrella left the fashion house.

Luckily a real and very talented designer agreed to start it all over again. Deacon is to work on the collection that will be unveiled duirng Paris fashion week this October but no runway shows are planned for the first two seasons.

Speaking about his approach to fashion Giles said:

I obviously don’t want to infringe upon my own line, but I like things that are very feminine, lots of color, great prints, great quality, some unusual cuts. All of those things that I like in the world of fashion design I’m going to bring to what I feel is appropriate for the Ungaro woman.”

The 40-year-old British designer understands how dificult it is going to be to revive people’s interest in the brand but he is sure everything is possible:

I’m totally aware and respectful of the pressure but at the same time, I’ve run my own business for eight years and worked in lots of places. I think as soon as you start worrying and thinking about that too much, you’re not concentrating on doing good work, which is the most important thing.”

Well, we wish all the best to the new Ungaro designer and hope he changes our vision of this label soon.

According to Women’s Wear Daily, Ungaro’s owner Asim Abdullah was seen having dinner with Giles in a Paris restaurant. However, both of men have refused to comment on the rumours.

Lindsay Lohan was widely criticized for her work at the label. The first and the only collection created using Lindsay’s advice was poorly received.

There were lots of talks about Lindsay’s involvement into the creative process of Ungaro brand. She had been reported to be leaving it and then all the rumours were slammed. Now we again return to this topic and finally we can state that the 23-year-old no longer works for Ungaro.

The actress didn’t attend the show of the label at Paris Fashion Week. When asked why she wasn’t there, Lindsay replied:

Because I don’t work for them anymore. There’s legal things going on; I can’t really discuss it.”

The brand’s owner Asim Abdullah confirmed the news saying that Lindsay was “not involved” with the latest collection.

It’s not easy for her to read or hear about this. And she must be feeling really upset. Sorry for you, poor girl.

It seems that this girl literally attracts trouble. After such a pressure with Ungaro collaboration she is again involved into an unpleasant situation. This time she hasn’t done anything wrong except being too credulous.

Lindsay has been working on her leggings line expansion when the sketches for her new pieces were stolen. The worst part of this story is that her friend did that to her. The actress-turned-designer claims that it is her longtime pal Patrick ‘Pootie’ Aufdenkamp who took her drawings and now uses those for his own line.

Apparently Lindsay feels furious. But she knows it is her fault she was so trusting. And the so-called ex-friend is planning to launch his line this coming February.

A source said:

Patrick stole Lindsay’s sketches for her new 6126 clothing line. He is now running off trying to do his own line. And telling people he’s going to fashion market week in NYC on February 18 to debut his line. It’s horrible. He was her best friend. He has always used her, and she’s been warned to never trust him. Lindsay is a good friend and likes to see the good in people. She didn’t want to believe how bad Patrick’s energy was, and how false his friendship has always been with her.”

Patrick and Lindsay have been close friends for seven years and the star admits she’s been hurt by his betrayal.

She told UsMagazine.com:

I should’ve known better. But new year for me and a new beginning! Health, happiness, success and love!”

This must be really frustrating for Miss Lohan as she is going to expand her 6126 collection by including jackets, dresses, and trousers in lace, cashmere and leather. Now she will have to invent new designs.

Lindsay Lohan who has become one of the most discussed celebrities thanks to her Ungaro collaboration is planning to expand her 6126 line.

The actress is to include other than leggings items of clothing, such as jackets, dresses, and trousers in lace, cashmere and leather. It is expected that the collection will feature up to 100 pieces. The range in price will be huge and the most expensive item is going to be a leather jacket.

Besides, Lindsay made it public that futher expansion of the line is planned in 2011. The collection will be added with a range of accessories like bags, jewellery and shoes, as well as cosmetics.

Kristi Kaylor, principal in 6126 LLC in Beverly Hills, said:

We’ve had amazing success with the leggings line. We have a great business with Neiman Marcus and several hundred great specialty stores. DNAM Apparel was the perfect partner to work with 6126 and grow it as a lifestyle brand. We’re launching the full clothing collection next year, and a cosmetics line, handbags, shoes, jewellery in spring 2011.”

It’ll be a young contemporary price point with contemporary styling. We’re conscious of it in the sense that we have great price points and quality products. The vision is to offer customers something that they don’t have in the marketplace today, items that go back with leggings: blazers, dresses and tops.”

Ungaro's CEO Mounir Moufarriage slammed rumours Lindsay is to be axed by the French fashion house. He insists she is still very much involved into the creative process.

We have written that Lindsay Lohan’s involvement into the work of a famous brand Ungaro was critisized a lot by both the team and customers. Even the founder of the house Emanuel Ungaro couldn’t stay aside and expressed his discontent with the choice of a celebrity. And according to rumours the actress was to be asked to leave the label.

However, Ungaro’s CEO Mounir Moufarriage slammed rumours Lindsay is to be axed by the French fashion house. He insists she is still very much involved into the creative process.

He commented:

As we speak, she is in New York in shoots with Ungaro. The decision to appoint her was controversial, but then fashion is controversial anyway, and you need some novelties and you need to test some new ideas.”

He also told the press Lindsay’s association with the label has increased sales even though the Spring-Summer 2010 collection is not yet available in stores.

He told WWD:

There are some girls out there that whenever they move, whatever they wear, they attract attention, even if they make mistakes. It’s all publicity. We’ve got a celebrity and it’s a new concept, which we’re going ahead with. Ungaro, let’s recognise it, was a dormant brand, and now everybody’s talking about it today, so the level of awareness has improved greatly.”

Well, bad PR is good too, at least it ‘improves the level of awareness’. I’m glad Lindsay is no more under fire.
