Fall/Winter 2008 designer collections have presented us with some new tendencies. One of the ever new trends is, of course, classic. Classic never gets old. Designers can rediscover it every new season and it will anyway look totally irresistible and beautiful. Details add new chic and charm but generally don’t radically change the tendencies.

So classic style hits the balance between extravagance and casual style, it might be a starting point for some designers and a stumbling block for others. Classic makes you follow its rules but is at the same time flexible enough to absorb brand new tendencies. So, shortly, classic never gets old.

So as for main autumn/winter 2008-2009 tendencies, they were presented during Milan, London and Paris Fashion Weeks earlier this year, and the tendencies surely include classic style with retro chic and charm of the ‘60s.

Classic Chanel Fall Autumn Winter 2008-2009

is fabulous as always. Classic hues – gray, white, black, lavender and blue – were presented in short skirts, long with fringing, voluminous sleeves, pleated and corrugated folds, voluminous sweaters.

catwalk show brought us back to early ‘60s – short sleeves, voluminous skirts, trapezium shape dresses along with cute and stylish , , and that truly revived the spirit of the ‘60s.

One could see pistachio green, crimson, turquoise blue, and purple outfits on the runway. The collection was really feminine and really retro, which was undoubtedly one of its advantages. We just loved the .

Valentino Fall Autumn - Winter 2008 2009

’s consummate mastery to create high fashion has always been praised. This fall the fashion house sticks to the 1960s classic using bright colors and elegant feminine style. Pastel pink, coffee-colored, blue, radiant white, different shades of gray stressed the styles but at the same time didn’t distract attention from the designs.

Valentino Fall Autumn - Winter 2008 2009

Models were sporting tulip dresses, see-through small collar elegant blouses, bell shaped sleeveless silk gowns, dresses and skirts with asymmetric fasteners, lots of ruches and big bows.

Valentino Fall Autumn - Winter 2008 2009

Some of the dresses and suits were decorated with really big buttons of some matching color. The collection was well balanced in its reference to form and content and was filled with genuine spirit, though some said the show missed famous ’s red garments.

Valentino Fall Autumn - Winter 2008 2009

Fall/Winter 2008 classic is harmony of volume and slender lines. One can see it in every cloth item presented at runway shows. Trousers are part of the tendency. They can be made superslim like leggings or treggings or bell-bottomed high-waisted ones. Elegance is what actually matters.

Elegance reins this fall and winter. Even in power dressing, which is back on the fashion agenda this season. No scaffold like shoulder pads or block colour suits, power dressing gets to be more feminine, aesthetic and even sexy this time around. Subtly structured suits, tailored dresses that accentuate the female form, bold jewellery and the return of dressing up is the look for this season’s woman in control.

Gisele Bundchen for Max Factor

MAX Factor is a brand that has touched some of the most glamorous faces in the world for the last 100 years,” said Bundchen. “But more than that, I love that this was the original brand to make that professional artistry and glamour available to everyday women, and I’m honored to work with MAX Factor in continuing that great tradition.”

Gisele’s role as the newest MAX Factor face depicts a thrilling new look of the brand’s long-standing inheritance of putting fashion-forward, modern makeup views within reach for all women with its line of professional quality products. Max Factor Gisele Bundchen

Bruce Katsman, associate marketing director for Factor and its sister brand, Cover Girl, noted that Bündchen will be working with makeup artist Pat McGrath, who is also P&G’s global creative design director.

Associate marketing director Bruce Katsman called choosing Bundchen “a no-brainer.”

She’s the image of our high fashion consumer,” he says. “It’s not so much about her look, per se. She’s rocked the runway so she’s perceived as a great canvas. We think she does the same thing for makeup.”

says in a telephone interview about her chameleonlike quality:

There’s been the androgynous look and the classical pretty girls. I’m not one and I’m not the other, but I can look androgynous or I can look pretty — but I’ll never look too much one way or the other”

Color Genius Max Factor

In the new ad Gisele is doing light makeup. Her long hair  is being pulled back on top of her head. She’s demonstrating her left shoulder, dressing only what appeared to be a pink furry coat. Her face looks seductive, with both her eyes looking at the camera and her lips opened.

I thought it was really cool to be a part of something so old,” Bundchen says. “I can’t believe something can exist for that long. For a business to stay alive for that long, it must be really good.”

Gisele adds:

Imagine what I’d look at 100 years old?!

Max Factor

Mr. Max Factor, the father of recent makeup, revolutionized the views of beauty and style 100 years ago on the Hollywood movies with the producing of his perfect makeup line. His work began on films in 1909.

It’s thanks to the legacy of Max Factor & Company that we were given the first “waterproof” makeup in 1971.

Rihanna 2008 august In Style cover girl

is the cover girl of August 2008 In Style magazine and featured in a pic spread and profile article and interview. told about her rule-breaking fashion philosophy — and her future.

In Style,

We’ve had the Meg, the Jennifer, and now people ask for the at salons. Will you be switching it up again?

,

The first time I heard people were asking for the , it was really flattering and maybe a little strange. It caught me by surprise, but now I feel it’s a very cool thing. I don’t feel the pressure to change it up again at all. I like it, as they like it

She’s having silk dress,  by Riccardo Tisci gold-plated necklace, her own earrings and Gucci leather booties on.

In Style,

This issue is about breaking fashion and design rules. What are some you’d like to crush?

,

The idea of not wearing brown and black together seems so dated. The other day I wore a black T-shirt, black Nobody jeans, a brown leopard-print belt by , and brown Giuseppe , and it looked awesome. Also the rule about not matching your makeup to your outfit. I do that onstage, matching red lipstick to a bright red jacket or neon-pink eye shadow to a pink jumpsuit. And I also love to mix prints.

In Style,

How has your look evolved over the years? What’re your style obsessions?

,

It has evolved without my even noticing it. Lately I’m obsessed with Thierry Mugler…Grace Jones inspires me…she has extraordinary style and she’s fearless. I love designer Martin Margiela: told me about him. I also like Dsquared, Chloé, Zac Posen—he makes flattering lines.”

In Style,

But you weren’t always a fashion maven? Growing up in Barbados, you were a tomboy.

,

I wore my brother’s clothes, dresses with sneakers, or no at all. I would always get into trouble with my mom. She would say things to scare me like, ‘You’re going to get cut!’ But I couldn’t help it. I would climb trees, steal mangoes, catch birds—silly things that were fun to us at the time. My cousin and I were the only girls in the group. We would have to stand up for ourselves because the guys didn’t want us around.”

Rihanna

Emanuel Ungaro silk-nylon jacket. BCBG Max Azria silk nylon dress. necklace of metal, enamel and glass. bracelet in white and yellow 18kt gold.

told In Style,

At the time I was, like, ‘OK, I’ll do whatever you want me to do.’ But I love doing edgier things. So I had to grow up and figure myself out.”

Three years later, the Barbadian songstress is a 20-year-old trendsetter with neon nails, spiky locks and a love of experimentation—up to a point.

I let hairstylists and makeup artists try anything, but I’ll say ‘I’m not too sure if I like this’ if I need to. Because at the end of the day, my face is what’s out there, so I have to make sure it’s right.”
