Lily Cole models her own jewelry collection

Lily Cole designed a jewelry collection made partially of Amazonian wild rubber after she was offered by Sky Rainforest Rescue to visit Brazil to see the wild rubber tapping. The model who is an ambassador fo the initiative decided to create a jewelry line inspired by a pendant of her own from Africa.

For me, the collection is a metaphor of what is possible. I hope we can use the material in many other products in the future. Jewellery is also a good way of communicating the value and delicacy of the rainforest it represents. Wearing it against skin can connect us with a place and a dialogue that is seemingly far away.

The model who graduated from Cambridge and ventured into acting (I loved The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and her role of siren in Doctor Who) and is eco-conscious had also Vivienne Westwood join her in exploring the rubber industry. The designer created a dress for her from rubber, which Cole wore to Met Ball this year.

The collection is stylish and modern but also very affordable. It consists of pendants, rings, and earrings made of metal and colored wild rubber. The design though very simple and minimalistic makes a statement.

Cole has been involved in the entire process of making the jewelry including rubber tapping. She said:

I wanted the jewellery to feel valuable but also vulnerable – as a metaphor for the rainforest. I wanted it to be something people would both love and treat delicately. I am more interested in the story behind the objects than the process of design itself, but design is an inherent part of a lot of what I do, and important for communicating ideas.

The result is great. The jewelry looks gorgeous, don’t you think?

M’oda ‘Operandi Designer Punk Collection

Designer Punk collection by M’oda ‘Operandi is here and it rocks. There are pieces from more numerous famous designers and brands and a whole lookbook of punk-inspired outfits from Balmain, Givenchy, Moschino, Thom Browne, Rodarte, Eddie Borgo, Vivienne Westwood, Zana Bayne, Tripp NYC, Preen, Any Old Iron, Vhernier, Prabal Gurung, and New York Vintage.

The collection is rather luxurious and diverse. There is a clothing line full of cool tees and tops with various designs, logos and Union Jacks. There is a stylish leather biker jacket from Balmain, and a leather studded top from Givenchy. Rounding out the leather pieces are a pleated leather Givenchy skirt and Balmain leather biker pants.

You can also find a few dresses in the collection by Rodarte, Hussein Chalayan, Givenchy, Balmain, Vivienne Westwood and Preen. A few of them come in plaid and checks. Rodarte dresses come with studded collars and metallic stars and sequins.

Jewelry pieces come from such renowned brands as Fred Leighton, Stephen Russell, and Tom Binns. In the jewelry range there are statement necklaces, diamond rings, spiked bracelets, drop earrings and safety pins in various forms. The prices range from modest $85 for a Due Punti silicon ring to whopping 285,000 for a Stephen Russell 19th century diamond corsage brooch.

Accessories are very diverse in the Punk collection. There are bags, shoes, headpieces, gloves, harnesses, a belt, a floral veil and even a helmet. Charlotte Olympia created a small collection of accessories embellished with safety pins to contribute to the line. Balmain presented lace-up leather boots, while Prabal Gurung contributed bold eyewear. In this range you will also find thematic Dr. Martens boots, mohawk headpieces, and Zana Bayne’s conical leather bra.

And even this is not all. There is art and objects line that includes a leather chandelier, temporary tattoos and a signed bass guitar. Rodarte dress in Vogue US, July 2008

M’oda ‘Operandi has teamed up with thirteen famous brands and designers to create a collection as tribute to Punk: Chaos To Couture exhibition that will take place in Met Museum in May. The line will also launch on May 2nd and will be priced between $100 to $13,000.

Each designer/brand created a piece inspired by punk. The collaborators include likes of Givenchy, Rodarte, Prabal Gurung, Vivienne Westwood, Moschino, and Tom Binns among others.

The collection is to celebrate Punk as movement and part of fashion. M’oda ‘Operandi co-founder and creative director Lauren Santo Domingo said that:

We are thrilled to offer women the opportunity to capture the spirit of punk with pieces that balance high fashion and rebellion.

M’oda ‘Operandi is an online retailing brand founded by Áslaug Magnúsdóttir and Lauren Santo Domingo. They work to bring the latest unedited designer collections to the fashionistas around the world before the designs even hit the stores.

The Punk: Chaos To Couture exhibition will launch on May 6, 2013 and will stay open from May to August 11. Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, Anna Wintour, Rooney Mara and  Vogue Contributing Editor and M’oda ‘Operandi co-founder Lauren Santo Domingo will be co-chairs for the exhibition.

The exhibition is to include creations from such designers as Gianni Versace, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Rodarte, Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs and Dolce & Gabbana among many others. Those creations include a safety pin black dress by Gianni Versace worn by Liz Hurley at the movie premiere in 1994, torn cardigan by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, torn Rodarte dress (above) and many others.

Adele and Her Fashion Retrospective

Taking a glance, an awkward looking 20-year-old, back in 2008, when she just got a chance to record her first ever album, it is hard to recognize in that frightened girl a powerful woman, who Adele is now. Now, turning 25, Adele is very well-known not only in her home country, but all across the world, for her powerful voice and distinguishable style.

She has recorded her first album in 2008, which was entitled simply “19″ and that was the time she started to appear in wide public. That is when her style preferences began to emerge. The shy girl in the formless clothes started to appear at such events as Brit Awards (where she won the Critics’ Choice Award ), H&M Regent Street store, London and Shepherds Bush Empire, London. Coming to more feminine pieces, her body also began to change.

In 2009, she wears in a chartreuse satin coat by Barbara Tfank, to  attend the 51st Annual Grammy Awards, Los Angeles. Adele looks very confident in that provocative outfit. Then again she has shown up in public wearing Barbara Tfank, this time it was a custom-made black satin dress.

In 2010 her style started to resemble her current look, as she appeared in a vintage black and gold brocade dress at the CMT Artists of the Year awards in Franklin, Tennessee. As the time passed, her style progresses and in 2011, we saw her wearing Burberry dress during the MTV Video Music Awards, where she won three awards. She once confessed to US Vogue that:

“From twelve to thirteen I was a Grunger. Then I really got into R&B and became a Rude Girl – in Adidas, with a spit curl … and tiny Nike backpacks.”

So, having this in background, it is really weird to relate that girl in Nikes to the woman Adele of nowadays. Because today she is more likely to be seen ” with her favorite Jimmy Choo Rosabel bag, or in Vivienne Westwood or Aquascutum, although she still confesses to loving Marks and Spencer jeans”, as mentioned by Vogue UK.

Now, finally in previos year,  2012, she has appeared looking rather slim comparing to her previous looks wearing custom made Giorgio Armani sequin gown, accessorized with a Harry Winston ring, De Beers earrings and Christian Louboutin heels during the Grammy Award, where she won six awards! And at the latest Golden Globe award, which has been her first public appearance since giving birth to her newbown son, Adele was wearing  Burberry. Certainly, we see there is something different about her now, as she has opened up like a spring bloom with her beauty and talents. So what do you think? Has her style evolved?

One of my favorite looks is Michelle Dockery’s Alexandre Vauthier Couture dress with a gold embroidered bodice and a long streamline white skirt. The actress accessorized her look with gold and green stone jewels.

Gorgeous Amy Adams who sported a blush Marchesa fishtail gown to the ceremony looked stunning with her retro wave do and Tiffany & Co jewels. The star also accessorized the look with Christian Louboutin bag.

Nicole Kidman looked amazing in a black Alexander McQueen corset gown with a decorated neck. The actress completed  her look with Manolo Blahnik shoes, Fred Leighton jewelry, and a Roger Vivier clutch.

Kate Hudson who was a presenter at the Golden Globes 2013 opted for an elegant Alexander McQueen gown with gold embellished neck and open neckline. The actress accessorized it with Roger Vivier clutch

Kaley Cuoco opted for a cool goth makeup look (and manicure) to contrast her romantic embellished low-cut gown from Zuhair Murad which Big Bang Theory star accessorized with a matching satin clutch.

Anne Hathaway who won the award for her role in Les Miserables went for a dress, coat and jewelry from Chanel, custom-made vegan Aldo shoes, and a Roger Vivier bag.

Emily Blunt went for a gold Michael Kors gown with midriff cutouts. She comepleted the look with Vince Camuto shoes, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, and a Ferragamo clutch.

Rachel Weisz, who was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, The Deep Blue Sea, wore an interesting Louis Vuitton dress with sheer polka dot elements. The actress completed the look with a black clutch and a Serpenti bracelet.

Heidi Klum opted for another side slit gown, this time from Alexandre Vauthier. The white off-shoulder embellished dress had a one long sleeve and a train.

Megan Fox, who was presenting, wore a neutral Dolce & Gabbana mermaid-style gown with Jimmy Choo shoes, Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch.

Lea Michele appeared in an Elie Saab halterneck dress with a side slit. The actress, who fulfilled a role of a presenter, accessorized it with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, Giambattista Valli shoes and Elie Saab bag.

Fall/Winter Menswear trends are all about leather, prints, and luxe fabrics like velour. The outerwear is strict in terms of silhouettes and design. Clothing includes suits, suit pants, shirts, turtlenecks, and various sweaters, jumpers, and pullovers.

Men’s Fashion Trends

Colors in menswear are navy blue, oxblood, brick red, shades of brown, and of course, gray. Designer brands like Etro offers menswear in bright reds, shades of orange, and jewel tones of purple and green. Leather The Fall/Winter 2012/2013 season is all about leather. It’s in the outerwear, pants, jackets, and even suits. Leather on leather is a common combination. Designers offer to pair a leather shirt with leather pants and leather jacket. If that’s too much leather for you, there are fabric coats and blazers with leather panels.

Velour Another luxury fabric is velour. It’s used in suits and separate blazers and pants. Changing into a velour jacket after work is a nice way to transform your outfit into an evening look.

Cape Style Outerwear Cape-style outerwear is the key trend of the season. It paires perfectly with suit pants or pleat trousers and jumpers over the shirts. It also looks great with brimmed hats.

Military Coats Military style lingers for another season in the outerwear. Balmain, Belstaff, and Canali created super stylish coats inspired by military overcoats.

Bordeaux Bordeaux shades are found everywhere in menswear from outerwear to pants and shirts and even footwear. It’s a great alternative to black or gray and a great accent color too.

Navy Navy blue is another important color of the season. It can also be found in outerwear and clothing. It also goes well with oxblood.

Turtleneck Turtleneck is great for the Fall/Winter period. It’s practical and stylish at the same time. Wear it under blazers or leather jackets it will look equally cool. Also look out for turtleneck sweaters.

Jumpers & Pullovers Sweaters, jumpers, and pullovers are a great way to keep warm during Fall/Winter season and stay stylish.

Sheepskin Sheepskin is one the key trends for Fall/Winter 2012 menswear. It’s mostly used in collars and lapels as well as the lining for outerwear.

Suits Suits of different kinds can be found in most collections. Salvatore Ferragamo, Canali, and Versace created dressier suits with gray purple stripes.
