When I was a kid, I loved to watch my elder sister preparing for a party. She would spread all the content of her closet on the bed and spontaneously try on one or another. This would usually last an hour or so – at least now I know who I inherited this awesome feature from. Then she would run around the house like crazy searching for little bits and pieces missing from her make-up kit. Finally, dressed up and with a completely camouflaged face, she would thoroughly examine her reflection in the mirror. And just when I thought I was finally released, she would rush back to the closet and empty the shelf with various belts, scarfs, headpieces and other adornments. Responding to my reasonable “Why?”,  she would smirk and drop: “You’ll see when you grow up”. And yes, she was absolutely right. I do understand now how important those thingies are. So let’s have a look at the hottest accessories of Spring/Summer 2014.

Spring/Summer 2014 Hottest Accessories

White tights sound quite appealing to me. I have no idea where this trend came from, and, to be honest, I don’t care. As long as it carries aesthetic meaning, I won’t dig into the epistemological part. Some might question the fucntionality of such a piece, due to its unpractical color. I can easily argue this aspect, as all of us have at least one white dress in our closets. So, the color is not a barrier at all. If you are not sure what clothing pieces to wear with this item, Emporio Armani and Miu Miu have presented some samples. Skirt suit and a spaghetti strap dress are both in pastels, which match the shade of the tights. All together the outfits from the Italian designers look very romantic and delicate. However, you don’t have to follow this pattern and may easily opt for contrasting combinations.

Chokers are still in vogue. These saucy pieces manage to create a very bold, sexy and rebellious look. Actually, looking at the items offered by Lanvin, Miu Miu, L’Wren Scott, Cushnie Et Ochs, Carven and Alexander McQueen, I find it extremely hard to not fall in love with this fine accessory. When I see a choker, the first thing that comes to my mind is 50 Shades of Grey by E. L. James. Don’t ask me why – it’s just the first association.

Lanvin, Jean Paul Gaultier and Burberry Prorsum

A scarf is something that will never fade away. No matter how many new accessories the fashion designers come up with, we will stay loyal to this airy-fairy piece of gauze. And seems like the brands are not going to break our expectations. Lanvin, Emporio Armani, Versace, Burberry Prorsum, Jean Paul Gaultier and Chanel all went for a scarf as an adornment detail of their outfits. What varies though is the way they suggest to wear it. Lanvin, for instance, opts for the mother-of-pearl scarf which seems to be a part of the dress, rather than a separate piece. Emporio Armani was very minimalistic and presented a tiny piece of fabric tied around the model’s neck in a super sophisticated way. Chanel obviously sought the golden mean and looks like it succeeded.

Forget about hiding socks underneath your clothing pieces. This might be considered as an old-fashioned gesture very soon. Prada, Saint Laurent and Zadig et Voltaire offer a totally different perception of socks. From now on, as they claim, we need to show this piece of garment to people around us. To start, we can wear very simple items, without any extra embellishment. But who knows, maybe in a couple of seasons we will watch the runways full of multicolored and richly adorned pairs of socks.

This was just a tiny part of the coolest accessories that will be on trend this spring. To see more of the trends, follow our updates that are to be released very soon!
