When it comes to choosing an outfit, I go by its appearance first. What matters to me the most is how beautiful a clothing piece looks. However, according to some sources, this is not a right approach. We should pay close attention to the quality of the piece. In other words, type of fabric that your dress is made out of is the most important factor. Is it really so? Do we actually need to scrutinize every single bit and peace of the material in order to purchase something? Or is it just about the proper texture? I agree, there is a significant difference between lace and silk, but is it so high-toned? Let’s see what the most prominent fashion designers think about it. What else, if not Spring/Summer 2014 collections can guide us in the world of textiles?
Spring/Summer 2014 Trends: It’s All About Texture
Surprisingly, fur was spotted in a number of Spring/Summer 2014 collections. Not that I dislike fur, but I, personally, consider it to be an exclusively winter material. However, designers like Dolce & Gabbana, Prada and Miu Miu have a different point of view. And to be honest, I am the last person to question their decisions. The Italian brands offered clothing pieces that are so adorable and stylish, that even someone as conservative as me would wear them without a second of hesitation. Most of all, I love the ensemble in turquoise and blue by Dolce & Gabbana.
Mesh is another type of fabric I would never consider myself to be a big fan of. Yet, looking at the outfits by Emilio Pucci, Rebecca Minkoff and Louis Vuitton, I can’t help admiring them. The best thing about these particular articles of clothing is that they are not vulgar or epatage at all. Yes, there is some touch of punk, but it is still compatible with the society stereotypes. You can wear either a mesh top over a spaghetti strap dress or an outfit with netting details.
I am sure, lace is adored by everyone. Even if some ladies deny their affection for this delicate and feminine material, somewhere deep down in their souls they love it as much as we do. No wonder, it manages to make every single outfit more exquisite and romantic. Burberry Prorsum, Dolce & Gabbana, Nina Ricci and Elie Saab are well aware of the impression lace outfits create. Although, it is not debuting in the fashion world, seems like this precious ornament will be in vogue for quite a while.
Organza is my favorite one so far. Fendi, Zimmermann and Dolce & Gabbana presented organza dresses that are styled very differently. Nonetheless, all of the three frocks make me fall in love with this lightsome and beautiful fabric. Plus, out of all the presented ones, this material will make you feel super comfortable on a hot summer day.
Leather, just like lace, has appeared on the runway long ago. Still, it doesn’t seem to fade away, which I like a lot. No matter how cliche it might seem to be, a leather outfit is capable of turning every single lady into a charming seductress. Jean Paul Gaultier, Herve Leger, Tom Ford, Lanvin, Versace and other designers offered mind-blowing pieces featuring this hot material. A sleeveless frock with rich embroidery, a skirt paired with a matching jacket or an offshoulder coat-dress with an asymmetrical hemline: one has a range of options here.
These are Spring/Summer 2014 fabric trends. Now that you are familiar with the color trends and the hottest must-haves of the coming season, you can breathe out a sigh of relief. You are halfway ready for spring!
