About Doesn’t like talking to the media about the charities she gets involved with:
No. It’s none of their business. I don’t want to be seen as the kind of person who does things and then expects publicity in return. I look at it as, I happen to have the means, I have the energy and I have the passion to do what I want to do.
About t-shirt “Get Educating”
One day I was standing around with a bunch of young girls, and one of them was talking about how she didn’t think she was smart enough to do what she wanted with her life. I said to her, “You are 11 years old. You can do anything you want to do.” I find that with some girls, the words work and education have gotten a bad rap.
When asked who she would suggest to be a woman young girls look to as a role model she says
After Ann Richards died, people said to me, “I had heard about her, but I didn’t really know about her.” So I said, “Let me do you a favor.” I printed out all her speeches I could find, all the way back to the Democratic Convention in 1988, and said, “Read about that mind, that humor, that energy. See what made her such a saucy, fantastic woman.” She really was a force to be reckoned with. She broke barriers with laughter, humor and intelligence, and that is a philosophy worth carrying on.
