Before being a model
Josephine Skriver was born in Copenhagen, Denmark to a gay couple. Her mother is an IT analyst and her father is a marine biologist and she also has a younger brother. When Skriver was a toddler she’s done a Pampers ad, which technically was her first modeling ‘job’. Playing soccer at school Josephine went on a trip with her team to New York where her coach approached by a modeling agent who spotted Josephine. Later back at home she was encouraged to send pictures of herself to the local modeling agency Unique Denmark, which is now her agency.
Signed with modeling agency since 2008 Skriver’s big break came only three years later when she opened and closed shows for Alberta Ferretti and Prada respectively in 2011. Her debut show was Rag & Bone the same year when she also walked for Calvin Klein, Ruffian, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga and many other brands. She walked for Noir in 2009.
She also walked haute couture shows that year for Valentino, Christian Dior, Zuhair Murad and others. In spring 2011 she got an editorial with Vogue Germany photographed by Greg Kadel and in summer she did an ditorial for Vogue Italia with famous fashion photographer Steven Meisel.
Since then the model continued to do editorials for Vogue, Dazed & Confused, and Eurowoman. In 2012 she walked shows for DKNY, Rodarte, Dolce & Gabbana, Carolina Herrera, Derek Lam, Versace, Victoria Beckham and others including the couture shows. She also did ad campaigns for Max & Co, Eifini, Tasaki as well as MAC’s Holiday 2012 Glamour Daze collection.
In 2013 Josephine scored a Blugirl ad campaign, as well as posed for Escada, Authoria, Dannijo, and Scandinavia. She did a spread for Vogue Brazil’s March 2013 issue and an editorial for Eurowoman.
Being from a family with two sets of gay parents Josephine Skriver feels she has a loving family that isn’t much different from others. At the same time she is proud of her parents and openly tells her story. She even takes her parents to gay pride parades.
