Met Gala 2016 that’s taking place on May 2nd is themed around fashion in the age of technology and although it’s easier to find futuristic clearly machine-made outfits from around 2013, I took upon myself the uneasy task to find dresses from the 2016 collections that look like they would be both red carpet-worthy and fitting with the theme.
One of the designers who stands out as the obvious choice is of course Iris Van Herpen who is known for her love for 3D printing and complex forms and silhouettes. Both her dresses and shoes are perfect for this year’s thematic ball and I hope more celebs will wear her designs.
Atelier Versace had quite a few interesting futuristic styles in the couture collection. The ones below feature laser cut outs and interesting prints and embroidery. Christian Siriano’s gown features an interesting machine-inspired print.
Other styles look absolutely otherworldly and definitely deserve a spot on the Met Gala red carpet. The gala will be hosted by co-chairs Idris Elba, Jonathan Ive, Taylor Swift, and Anna Wintour.
What celebs would you like to see in these dresses?
